Oh my god. I'm so sorry. Are you okay?

It's very derivative and a preachy at times but I wouldn't say it's unenjoyable. "Your Possible Pasts", "The Fletcher Memorial", "The Final Cut" and "Two Suns in the Sunset" are all catchy songs, and the more personal pieces are very touching, like my favourite "When the Tigers Broke Free".

of PF's previous stuff, The Wall in particular.

the wall was much more rock-oriented and the story is much more personal on this album, rather than being from the point of view of a fictional rockstar. I've always thought this was truly the album RW wanted to make and the wall was a more rock-heavy version that was run through other band members' "rock filters".
idk, I mean I would say there are similarities because of the story on both albums, but this is miles from anything resembling "derivative" to me. kills the wall.

and I didn't mean that I couldn't think of any other albums in their discog this is close to in terms of musicianship and story as it relates to "the quality" of the album, I was making that point in reference to this album being "derivative" or in my point of view, showing how this album is in fact NOT derivative of their other work

I'll never understand how anyone can prefer the post-Waters albums to this. Those albums are bland as fuck compared to this, which is easily one of the most powerful albums in Floyd's discog.

It is similar musically, conceptually (dad and war) and structurally . t/t even directly reprises the music. Same genre, same atmospheric style with obligatory guitar solos in every second song, samples, spare arrangements, theatrical approach, short form songs + a couple of interludes.
And btw I don't think it's more personal. The Wall has almost all been about Waters's loss of father, his relationships with women, his feelings about PF shows, his fears etc, and The Final Cut is instead much more political - many of the songs are not related to Waters at all. Of course the motivation behind the album is still very personal, but more so than The Wall? Nope.
