What Lloyd said. Really surprises me that a lot of people don't know that most of the album was Albini's mix to begin with.

Minor differences imo.
But I do like the "slightly" more chaotic Albini versions.

There is the Scott litt versions.
The origional Albini version that was rejected and led to accusations from Albini that Nirvana had sold out leading to the album release.
Then there is the '13 mix.

This is not my favorite Nirvana album but I do think it's their best for more than one reason, though Nevermind is an excellent album in its own right I just believe that it gets a little too much attention (I'm not saying it's undeserved but still). For me, In Utero captured the sound Nirvana was working on since their Bleach days and it perfected their sound as well. The opener "Serve The Servants" kinda told fans that times are changing and lives are getting better so don't expect the same angst-driven material on previous releases. The vocals have somewhat improved overtime and Kurt's signature wailing doesn't make as much appearances on this one but when it does it seems a bit rough for non-hardcore fans but terrific for the "in-crowd" (Scentless Apprentice is a clear example of that). The song-writing is improved greatly from Bleach and Nevermind but also takes a more sensible approach with its lyrics that give the fans a more genuine tone as compared to previous releases. 4.5 (I don't want to "fan-boy" it and give it a 5)

"In Utero captured the sound Nirvana was working on since their Bleach days"
lol Kurt was writing college rock then, influenced by blues. In Utero existed by the combination of his inability to cope with being famous, the turmoil between the band and the monetary greed between the members, and his hate towards his label. I highly doubt he was attempting to sound anywhere remotely similar to anything on In Utero back when he was writing Bleach. kurt didn't even want to do "grunge" in the first place. Their label started pushing them to sound heavier just before Nevermind.

To be fair, this album has the hooks of Nevermind with the raw edge of Bleach.
