Listen to Morellos non effect based solos,

...Do those exist?!

My first listen through of Out Of Exile I thought alot of the solos were really bad...but they've grown on me now, and with this cd I don't even really notice the solo's I've become accustomed to them. The only lead part I really remember is the little solo's on Until We Fall which are really great...and ironically they are one of the non-effect based solo's the man I quoted was talking about.

The title track's solo is badass. ITs got that atmospheric quality to it that just completes that song.

I think Morello is horribly overrated. He may be a good soloist without the stupid effects (if such a solo has ever been recorded by the man), but his efforts on Out of Exile were simply terrible. The only decent solo was Doesn't Remind Me, which actually rocked considerably. The rest was pure shite. They're unimaginative, bland and appallingly overdone. What's worse is that it's blatantly obvious they have little preset structure at all, and his improvisational skills lack hard. Isn't this obvious???

As for this album, I quite like the soulful sound of the single, so I may give it a listen if the opportunity presents itself.

That's complete bullshit... I don't like all of his solo's but its idiotic to think that they are not creative. And what's wrong with having little preset structure, the solo on Stairway to Heaven was completley improvised.

But Jimmy Page had mad improvisational skillz.

I think bahamut_ali just likes to throw random adjectives into sentences and hope they work. Are some of the solos almost completely random and wanky? Sure. Are they uncreative? Or bland? Of course they aren't. Over done? I would say underdone for some of them.

One of the exciting things about Morello's playing is you have no idea what he is going to do next. Unlike Wylde and Dimebag's wank (for example) Morello's wank is something that you most likely have never heard before, instead of over use of the pinch harmonic and the pentatonic scale.

The guitar work anymore is extremely bland and unimagintive.

Much better than Out Of Exile. Revelations & Broken City are definetly among the best songs they have written to date. If you look at the word innovation in the dictionary you'll find Tom Morello's name as vast description. If you think he's incapable of rocking without his Whammy & Wah pedal listen to his solo's he did with Rage i.e Take The Power Back, Settle For Nothing & A Fistful Of Steel.

That sentance has confused me each time I've checked out the new comments. Was there some kind of spelling error or what. I don't understand!

Maybe he was takin' the piss out of me? I have no idea.

But Jimmy Page had mad improvisational skillz.
Exactly. And Morello doesn't. Just listen to The Worm and it's perfectly clear - the man can't imrovise to save his life. Then listen to someone like David Gilmour or Jeff Beck, who use unique effects and can cut a real decent solo to boot. The difference in class is staggering. And this guy's considered one of the best in the world?
I think bahamut_ali just likes to throw random adjectives into sentences and hope they work
I'll cop that. I seem to go on an adjective binge from time to time.

What an extraordinary coincidence! All of you ^^^ are huge Morello fans and your birthdays all fall on the 30th of November. How freaky is that!? How clever we are.

In other news, I heard a lot of this album today and I'm really quite pleased. What I heard was very consistent and it certainly rocks as reported. I may just purchase it.
