Dave is better on future albums. Plourde was great, but he was more speed over variation.

Derrick definitely knew when to include speed, but he also did some pretty crazy things for a Punk drummer. Maybe it's just the fact that Dave seems to play from a more Alternative Rock background which bores me a little.

Trust me, Raun has no problem playing Derrick's parts live. Drumming wise he's got way more power, and he's far more creative with the beats, but then again, there's "Rifle" which has the illest drumming of any Lag song ever. I think Plourde's work in Bad Astronaut and Jaws far outstrips any of his Lagwagon stuff though.

You're definitely right about that, but I think that might have more to do with the fact that he was free to experiment a little bit, and the music was more varied which gave him more of a chance to do other things. But his drumming within the context of a punk band is just awesome.

How could you rate this 2.5? That's baffling!

Hmm. I wouldn't immediately label Dave Raun as an alt-rock specialist. This Message Edited On 02.18.08

Hoss, Double Pladinum, and Lets Talk About Leftovers are the only albums of theirs that don't have a 3.5 or higher, and most have at least a 4 (and this is the only one with a 2.5).This Message Edited On 02.19.08

Yeah I don't really get your rating either. Those three records are the best ones they have IMO. On a side note, Raun came from hardcore/punk bands, not alt. rock, one of which being the seminal punk/metal band Rich Kids On LSD.

The comparisons are nil when you think about how they both played for RKL...so it really doesn't matter.

I think their three best are Trashed, Duh, and Blaze (in that order), and it surprises me that you think their album of B-Sides (Let's Talk About Leftovers) is one of their top 3. I know about Raun's background, but to me he still seems to have more of an alt. rock style to him.

Dude, Hoss is amazing. And I'm giving strizz the benefit of the doubt because he probably read it as Let's Talk About Feelings.

I like Hoss... It's just not in my top 3. Now that you mention it you're probably right about that being "Lets Talk About Feelings".

LOL, ever heard "Rifle" ? They don't play this live cause Raun likely can't play the intro.

This is the worst Lagwagon album, awful production, which could have been a good thing had the songs not been so bland and boring. The loss of Sean Dewey and Derrick Plourde showed a lot, with that studio guitarist bringing no ideas to song writing.

I always loved the interplay that Chris and Sean had on the first 3 and always best albums, especially on the first 2. Sean had to leave for that shitty band everybody forgot about...

Reviewer: The "Choke" version recorded in the Trashed sessions is a thousand times better! Get the Remastered+Bonus version of Trashed or just look it up on yt.

OscarCotton,

It's all fine and good to disagree with this being one of their best albums (even though you're wrong and it is clearly their best work), but you're crazy if you think that terrible old version of "choke" is better than the masterpiece on Double Pladinum. The song is perfectly suited to the raw, heavy, low end, low production sound they use on the official release. The recording quality and production on the old one are terrible as well, sound is just so off. The singing and voice recording quality on Double Pladinum is also leagues better than previous releases in general. The musicianship is just plain better on this album, their talents as well-rounded musicians really shine through, and Stringfellow kills it on the guitar. I like that they did something a little different here, and went darker, when cookie cutter skate punk was getting a bit old. Although don't get me wrong, I love all their stuff, and the classic fast punk of the 90's.
