Excellent. Even though I'm a huge metal fan, I don't think that Isis really needs to do a whole lot of screaming.

I agree.

It works both ways for them, though.

I gotta say these guys blew what was left of my mind away when I listened to them.

I remember getting this album (it's fairly rare where I live) and having it on repeat the whole day. I like this way better than Neurosis who Isis supposedly "ripped off".

The first three tracks and "Grinning Mouths" are awesome. The rest aren't bad, but they meander around too much.

I'm debating whether or not I should check out this band.

Honestly, do it. You'll find something you like, everyone has (even Chan).

upon first listening to this album, the very first track just caught my attention and
wouldn't let go.. but the opener's sheer power and force couldn't be sustained for
the rest of the album (and i initially and foolishly thought it should). After listening
to every track several hundred times (give or take) in the last few months, i knew
better ,just about every track just wants to be played, and having to pause/stop just
feels so wrong/unnatural. i really have learned to adore and appreciate every single
nuance of every track.. even syndic calls, which was my least fav upon initially
listening.. but one of my fav things about this album is listening to new parts i
didn't notice before (like what sound like violins in the next to last minute of the
last track, after "truth burn through").

so did we is just gorgeous/awesomeness, backlit starts of slow but gets really heavy
mid-song, and the percussion around the last minute has an amazing culmination
of force , in fiction is pretty mellow and doesn't seem like it fits very well (very
creepy/atmospheric, which is not necessarily a bad thing) until about midway when
it starts to brood menacingly and shows you who's boss.. wills disolve has excellent
repetitious layering/build up from its beginning (very light) through to the bleaker
and heavier end.. syndic calls meanders too much, as someone mentioned but has a
very nice last third suspenceful section that has a nice climatic ending.. altered
course has a loungy, albeit heavy sound and terrific repetitious but i find it's maybe
a minute or two too long otherwise i'd say it'd just excellent.. and grinning mouths
has the most diverse and varying soundscapes. one of my favs is the 2nd quarter,
where the stereo seperation really is like two different songs (listen to just the left
or right channel sometime) but really each portion is beautiful and powerful and
could be its own song though combined into one of the best tracks on an amazing
album. This Message Edited On 03.01.07

Anyone getting into this album should beware that this album drones on in a good way, but is definitly not for anyone with a short attention span.

So Did We has one of the 5 best openings ever.
Aaron's vocals in the section are what I strive to do.

Judging from Backlit, I think I might check out more of this album. I definatly like what I hear of this more than what I've heard of ITAOT.
