A lot of this seems to be retracting Blood On The Tracks. "Sara", especially, really clangs for me - after writing such convincing break-up songs just a year or so earlier, to write something that gushing....it just seems like Sara put him up to it. And the mid-section just bores the hell out of me, to be honest, especially "Joey", "Mozambique", and "Romance In Durango". "Hurricane" is so punchy and powerful, and then what follows doesn't seem anywhere near as inspired. I like Dylan the most when he's pissed off, and here he sounds too content.

I guess I don't question what motives artists have with their songs. Sure, it's possible that the message of "Sara" is insincere but I think it's a beautiful song nonetheless. It rivals only the weakest tracks on Blood on the Tracks though. Isis is a cool song too, One More Cup of Coffee is great too.

At least I can more easily relate to your opinion than people who find this to be his best album. Whatever way you spin it, I can't believe someone can think this is his best. Perhaps I haven't listened to it enough to appreciate it fully. Or perhaps the fact that I haven't listened to it more than I have is why it isn't one of his great records. This Message Edited On 01.09.07

Probably the latter, Sep.
I agree with Iai, however. To me, this album, one or two tracks aside, just sounds a lttle lazy. When you consider Dylan to be one of the greatest lyricists to live (IMO anyway), you don't really want to listen to songs like'Sara' or 'Romance In Durango'.

As long as we can agree that Hurricane, One More Cup of Coffee and Isis are great songs, we can still be friends

I should probably re-listen to "One More Cup Of Coffee", since I actually don't remember it at all.

"Hurricane" owns obviously.

I always find Black Diamond Bay to be rather charming. The ones I really like here are Hurricane, Isis, Mozambique (because it's so catchy, not for any lyrical genius), One More Cup of Coffee, and Black Diamond Bay. Black Diamond Bay is probably my favorite on the album. I also like Romance in Durango once in a while. I wouldn't try and claim this is one of his best, but it's certainly a strong album.

I think Joey is my favorite song off her...the story is great and the chorus is both haunting and catchy as hell.
