Sell out to popular trend? You do know rap has been a part of culture for at least 25 years? That is hell of a long trend. I'm trying to think if mullets out lasted that but I'm not sure. Also you have no clue what sell out means.

Who cares at this point, it all returns to the fact you think Mariah Carey is a "sellout" because she incorporates rappers into a select number of her tunes.

OF course I haven't tried writing a guitar solo. 1. I'm not an idiot, and 2. I don't play guitar. What I have, as any self respecting white teen should do, is attempt to both produce some solid beats and lay down a few verses with my lyrically-challenged self. To date, I've finished maybe 3 full songs, and they've each taken me over 10 hours of toiling to even get them to the "poor" level.

Now, the point is that professionals are A) Obviously much better at this than I am, but that B) They have to strive for greantess (most of them do, anyways) at every turn. If you think you can throw a decent beat together in 5 minutes, have fun with your lack of both samples and planning.

Mariah Carey, while obviously not the shining example of songwriting in our day, still carries her weight quite well. She has one of the most powerful voices of the past 20 years (hell, you could argue it's one of the best ever if you wanted), writes some of her own materil, and knows how to promote herself. Fault her for being intelligent I suppose.

EDIT: http://sputnikmusic.com/muse.php?museid=328 There you have an excellent article on sellouts. This is all directed at Rocksta blahblahThis Message Edited On 07.02.06

Mariah Carey never changed her sound to get herself more popular she has always been the same person making the same type of music.
Thats it in a nut shell.
This album isn't a big step forward in terms of different sound the only difference between this and her S/T is a good 15 years and maturity. This Message Edited On 07.02.06

Well, that was an interesting read. I agree with Iluvatar, she has one of the best voices of our time.

^Reply to Jacarada, yes I do consider anyone who incorperates rap into their act as a sellout to popular trends.

I could see Hendrix incorporating rap into his music if he were still alive, he was the type that would experiment. And he pretty much raps during the bridge in the song if 6 was 9. I'm not even a big fan of rap and hip-hop, but I'll still defend it against you. Sure there are an abundance of idiot rappers who write terrible lyrics (G-Unit) and then there's Lil John.....whatever he does. But there are some good rappers out there who actually write great lyrics like Jay-Z, and the old cliche of 2 Pac. And secretly...I liked Ja Rule...

And this Mariah Carey better stop making Number One Hits! I hear she's close to matching The Beatles record. *cries*This Message Edited On 07.02.06
cr*p
Hehehehe, he censored crap himself.
But honestly, I can admit this isnt my cup of tea, but I can respect Mariah for being a talented vocalist and is good at her genre. Thats the type of responce Rocksta71 should have, its hard to carry an argument that is impossible to win.
Superb review, makes me want to give this a try.

Is the review just average in other words?

No no. Great review. Just my way of putting things sometimes. And the whole comments section for this one turned out to be pretty entertaining, too, lmfao.....This Message Edited On 07.04.06

I really can't stand her songs and her videos irritate the crap out of me. The only time I saw her singing live she was lip syncing but she does have an incredible range. Atleast in the studio. If anyone has seen her perform without lip syncing well I'll stick my foot in my mouth.
