cowboys through trendkill are sick, bring the nostalgia hard m/
reinventing the steel has some cool tracks but definite step down from the others

Trendkill is my fav, they actually stoped pretending to be thrash band with this album which is a good thing

This is how I see them after listening to them each many hundred times
Reinventing - Decent riffs but its fairly uninspired and pales in comparison to their other material. Its till better than some give it credit for though. You can tell the band weren't firing on all cylinders when they made this.
Trendkill - Most varied, experimental and has the best atmosphere and guitarwork (solo to 10's is my favourite solo ever). Favorite subject matter too and Phil gives possibly his best vocal performance.
FBD - Best head banging material, most aggressive overall album, only really works when your in a certain mood though.
Vulgar and Cowboys - have the classic pantera sound, lots of energy but not quite heavy enough for my tastes.
Power metal - Not as bad as their image back then might suggest, definitely a precursor for what was to come, but it doesn't really warrant repeat listens. Dime has some great work on it though.

Reinventing The Steel is awesome, not a single bad track and full of power, energy and badass riffing. Never understood why it gets such a bad rep on here.

Trendkill is def heavier than this even though this has Strength Beyond Strength which is possibly their most brutal song ever and one of, if not the best.
STRONGER THAN ALL

I think many people hates the album because Pantera was becoming more technical than their 2 previous albums, just check Hard lines, sunken cheeks, if that's not a progressive metal song, then I don't know what is it.

Overlong, that's what it is
But people here love technicality so I don't think that's the issue

They are as technically sophisticated and thight as ever on here, they simply became more heavy and less melodic and therefore it's more difficult to digest for some I guess. It also took me some time to appreciate the change of style but now I prefer this to the previous two albums by a mile.

Yeah people say they were trying to act macho but I think it's the opposite they were imitating kiss and priest until they found their groove if you'll pardon the pun, I wouldn't call this a technical album by any stretch but the riffs all hit harden then a sledgehammer to the skull and phil just goes apeshit lyrically and vocally. His falsettos were impressive but He was at his peak around 93-96 for sure with this, trendkill, Nola and Christ inversion. SJR, down, the illegals, scour, necrophagia etc are all decent but nothing he did after 96 really blew my socks off. And he did this while addicted to painkillers/heroin.
Say what you will about his character but his done a Hell a lot for metal over the years and deserves to be seen as one of the greatest frontmen in history. I could go on but I think I've sucked his dick enough

Well put, always understood why people hated him but never why anyone thought he couldn't sing. He was an absolutely phenomenal talent. Probably my second favourite singer/frontman OAT tbh
