I've somehow never listened to this band much, maybe it's time to change that

"man at night it gets worse might be my favorite track right now. it just sounds so good"
It is one of the best, but Premonition of the Hex is GOAT. Like, career highlight for them, what a great fucking song.

I'm glad most of you have been enjoying this album as much as I have! This one took a bit longer to grow on me than Circa's last two albums but when it grew, it grew on me hard. It's less in your face but there's a subtle pulse running through each track that lets them all flow into each other.
The way Anthony's voice just glides like silk over the verses of "Tunnel Vision", the beautiful vocal and guitar melodies all across "The Hex", and the incredibly satisfying build up and pay off of "The Amulet" are the highlights for me currently.

proud of circa being cool with bandcamp

I was not feeling this until Premonition started. The run from that through Rites of Investiture is solid, and yeah I'm in the At Night It Gets Worse camp for sure.

Anthony grew so much as a vocalist.

it's really incredible how good he's gotten. his voice is still great on the early records with that sort of charming roughness to it. but man, now he's just an incredible vocalist. i remember him once claiming he was a terrible singer when he first started
also i am really into that falsetto (not sure if that's the accurate term for what he is doing) he pushes into, first in never tell a soul (2:18 - 2:24) and then again throughout at night it gets worse. has he done that before in record?
|
| |
He hasn't really used a lot of falsetto on any of the past Circa Survive albums as far as I can recall. Certainly not to the degree it is used here.

i think that's why i like it so much, i really don't think i've heard him do that before

Great review. I'll bring my tiered track list here too
S: The Amulet, Flesh and Bone
A: Never Tell a Soul, Rites of Investiture, At Night It Gets Worse, Premonition of the Hex
B+: Lustration, Tunnel Vision
B: Stay, The Hex
with the title track probably being a top 10 track for them and Flesh and Bone definitely top 15 or 20.

Feeling a 4.3 right now.
I really wish I could see them today do an acoustic performance but I'm already putting my money into seeing BtBam's Colors. I'd totally go to both if I didn't have to uber to this. I feel like I'm making a mistake by missing them haha.

I think you are, dude. Colors is a great album and all, but Circa's worth it, I think.

This record sounds great so far! never really checked this band out.

I have the ability to see both but I shouuuuld save money. I've had my Colors ticket since June/July. I'm a much bigger fan of Circa though, I'm mostly going to BtBam cause my friend wanted me to come and I know they are great live.
But acoustic Circa sounds like such an experience and ugh...money

I mean, BtBam's show is going to be pretty cool no matter what, so there's that. But yeah dude, it's a tough call.

I'm so stoked on this record. It's their best since On Letting Go IMO.
There's not a song here that isn't captivating; I really didn't expect this to be so good.
