I get it. They've been trying to break away from their first two albums for a long time now. They were smart enough to know that the nu metal boat was sinking and it was time to move on. As far as nu metal bands go, they probably did the best job of moving forward (fame/financially speaking).
I also respect them for not taking the easy route and simply rehashing variations of the formula that would gain them the most accolades and money. Whether we like it or not, at least they're going their own route.
Having said all that, this release is boring and not very well executed.

Absolutely awful.
But, to stem the flood of hate, I find this song pretty damn cheesy on the album, but this is one hell of a touching performance in light of Cornell passing away.

"not gonna lie, I'm finding this way more listenable than expected
on one hand it's mostly inoffensive, unremarkable pop, which is far from desirable at this point in their career
but it's also not Living Things, which was genuinely shit regardless of context
so whatever, I'll be the generous guy and give it something higher than a 1.0-range rating
I've definitely heard worse"
This pretty much summed up my thoughts for this LP.

It really is inoffensive, just very very very boring. Also a big LP defender/apologist myself, but not getting behind this one.

I still despise the generic 808 beats in this record... They sound like they come straight out of the 'greatest hits drum sound'-pluginpack.

man their last album was pretty damn enjoyable so this is very disappointing.

Yeah, had to drop this to a 2, it really is a bore. And I'm someone who liked Living Things enough to give it a 3.

Review seems to focus a tiny bit too heavily on the positives to justify a flat-out 1 rating (though that still is better than a 0.5 I suppose). Nonetheless, this is some absolutely phenomenal writing on your part TVC, and I'd go as far as to call it one of the best reviews I've read on this site. Easy pos.
I feel obligated to listen to this because Linkin Park were an incredibly important band to me from ages 7 to 13, and I still hold a tremendous amount of nostalgia.for their first three albums, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous.

Wait what is the album cover exactly?
I see basic bitches on the beach with the sun in front of them like you'd see on the Abercrombie website...

Thank you very much for the feedback, yeah my reviews do tend to be long but I always aim at providing as much detail as I can about an album
Those are heavy words, that means a lot to me Dylan
