I don’t see why people expected atdi to create an amazing album here, they captured lightning in a bottle on vaya and relationship of command but like mars volta they just aren’t a band than can last more than a decade. It’s an alright album and when you hear them live you can see why they didn’t release something like roc, cedrics voice especially live isn’t Holding up well

I for one got exactly what I expected, a homage to the ‘good ‘ol days’ which doesn’t compare in quality but is fun nonetheless. Like a tribute to yesteryear.

If you like ATD-I’s past releases then the chances are you should get something out of it, if you’ve never been a fan I wouldn’t bother. It doesn’t tread any new ground & is inferior to their better works. My honest appraisal for you guys.

Relisten and pay attention to the lyrics. Cedric is actually saying a lot in these songs. I mean, if you don't like the songs, I get it. I'm just saying. Could be interesting to look into some of the meanings behind some of them. CEDRIC IS A NICE GUY. FOLLOW HIM ON TWITTER. FUNNY GUY: http://twitter.com/cedricbixler_

Yeeah I heard about it. Lmao I just clicked his twitter again after reading a previous comment of mine and apparently he's calling out the guy that played hyde in that 70's show for sexual assault against his wife. I mean not that it's funny but I mean it caught me off guard

Also for some reason fans seem to dislike Omar or say he's a jerk for whatever reason. I never understood why he seems like a nice guy to me

People have always gone at he and Ced because of The Mars Volta. Admittedly, while I almost never listen to them anymore, and I was a huge fan, Omar’s shit during their tenure was beyond excessive. But at 15, even having been a musician for almost a decade, and already having garnered an intimate knowledge of music theory, I was fascinated by the detail he put into making such discordant, preposterously over the top guitars. The whole “150 pedal array” thing in tandem with the fact that he tracks his parts an absolutely ludicrous amount of times was remarkably intriguing. Retroactively, I realized it was a morbid interest even then, but I digress.

Still, this is an awful occurrence. Goddamn disgusting. Also, I sent this to spotjohnny a few minutes ago when I broached this subject with him, but:

Surreal to consider the think tank behind a band that became the stuff of legend for a bunch of high-octane, verbose tunes about heroin, both indicting its abuse and uttering tortured cries for their own struggles with it and other hard drugs, would grow up, hm?

I just wanted to make sure Spots was aware, because although I am not going to defend their perplexing decision to engineer this album in the same manner as RoC (but worse), given their disdain for that record’s production, I still am quite fond of this.

The comment about the way Cedric seems to come across is very out of sorts given the new revelations. When you think of him as the guy who wrote “Invalid Litter Dept.” and then couple that with he and his wife’s betrayal at the hands of Scientology (yeah, I know, but c’mon: Cedric fucking Bixler-Zavala probably SHOULD be a Scientologist, if you feel me), the sexual assault, and the fact that they have children together...well, spotjohnny will tell you I know all too well how the fear for one’s family, their children will make people do wild, desperate, seemingly incoherent things.

Here’s a guy who has one of, if not the BEST, stage presences in his niche, an incredible vocal delivery, and lyrical prowess that no one else has really even attempted to emulate. How frustrating it must have been for him to scream as he always has and convey his anger, fear, and grief as he always has, and for no one to understand properly. Cedric was Cedric on Interalia. The fervor, however, becomes far more primal in retrospect- hauntingly so.

Just my nickel, because fuck two cents.

You guys can go back to bandwagoning about how I’m a total rube for being this site’s version of the individual in question now. If 2017 has taught me anything, it’s that even if you let people in on the joke, the punchline is all-too-often given nothing but a mirthless laugh.

but ye hep kat lol FUCK that guy amirite

Yeah, I think it makes sense that he's like he is off stage. He has that political but not like zealous about it kind of vibe. And he's very accessible and not snobby at all which makes sense with their punk (??) DIY roots.

I can only imagine that’s you being facetious. Otherwise you’ve clearly never been drunk or been around a drunk person.

And yeah, they’re a punk band, though they don’t fall into the DIY spectrum in the strictest sense anymore. But they had a platinum single 17 years ago. Doesn’t diminish their time from before they out the hood made it doe
