Review Summary: Six Feet Under a few good tracks, a lot of meh cuts and one pretty bad one. Yes Chris Barnes is still a dreadlocked cookie monster.

Six Feet Under are a very polarising band within the death metal community, having been the once mere side project of former Cannibal Corpse frontman Chris Barnes. Since his split with the group in the mid 90's he has devoted all of his time to this new project which has released its 12th album of original material or 16th overall album if you take the "Graveyard Classics" into consideration.

This new opus is titled "Torment" and contains 12 tracks ranging from 2 to 5 minutes. And I will admit, the band has had some major misfires, from the nonsensical Ice-T feature on "One Bullet Left" from "True Carnage" to the hilarious guttural rapping on "Feasting on the blood of the Insane" from "Maximum Violence". But they do have their moments, such as 2012's "Undead" and 2013's "Unborn" which feature some of my favourite songs from the group.

We start off with the first single "Sacrificial Kill", which kicks open the door with an awesome groove as Chris Barnes cookie monsters his way with some of his most gruesome lyrics yet:

Your arm cut off and left to bleed slowly
Superficial cuts carved in your face now expressionless
One eyeball has gone missing
Lips clipped off and both eyelids droop down
Off your face

After that, we launch into the second and shortest song, "Exploratory Homicide", which starts with insane blast beating and double bass kicking with some technical 7 string bass work and a not bad main riff.

The rest of the album doesn't do anything spectacular, but still has some really good stuff on here. From the grooving "Schizomaniac" and "Bloody Underwear" to insane speedy cuts such as the previously mentioned "Exploratory Homicide"

The production is pretty good, with all the instrumentation front and centre, although the vocals (if you can call them that) are a tad buried, which some may see as a good thing.

Good tracks: Sacrificial Kill, Bloody Underwear, Schizomaniac

Why make jokes about Chris Barnes when Chris Barnes makes them for you?...

Those lyrics blow, not even close to his "most gruesome".

Not expecting much from this but the single was decent,
