I can't get enough of Salt Water, such a beautiful track.

yep, pretty happy with this, like what most are saying, probably their 3rd best after 1 and II.
Salt water doesnt do much for me.
Family Man, Life is an Ocean, October, Lonely Soul and From 44 to 48 my favourites.
Like that female's vocals, Alex, nice soothing quality.

Been listening to this a lot. I think this album easily stands up top the first two albums. Contrary to others here I think Aviv's vocals are very strong on this album. His voice has a very organic quality to it which is very well displayed on top tracks like "Jackal" and We'll Never Be Apart". "Lonely Soul" and "Undercover Heart" are the only tracks that stand out negatively here. They don't really fit in with the rest but are otherwise fine songs. I think this is a very enjoyable release which could find it's way to my end of the year list.

I agree with you on the majority of points you've raised Ben. But I disagree that this is "the most easily digestible album of his career". I remember the first two Blackfield albums being much more accessible and digestible than this one. Still, a very nice review

Forgot about this lol
Didn't sound memorable

This sounds more accessible and digestible to me because of how well it flows and the more optimistic tone it has.
Give it another try dreamgazing, this is among the best music of the year.

"Wilson’s songwriting has never sounded as content"
I thought it was confirmed that Wilson only contributed to the writing on From 44 to 48? All the others were solely Aviv.

@Sabs93, Nope, SW contributed 50% of the album. It was a complete collab.

This album is awesome. Definitely one of my favorites this year so far.

I have to give it to Sabs93, he was right. SW only wrote two songs on this one.

And those are the ones that matter. The album is nice and mellow but that's quite about it :/

I will say it's definitely mellow, but there's a lot of emotion within this thing.

SW are great but definitely not the only ones that matter. In fact, there's a number of compositions by Geffen that I found very mature. Especially Lonely Soul, which might be the most interesting songs on here.

So which ones are the SW songs, the first and the last? And which ones are mixed by Alan PArsons?

Wilson co-wrote Life is an Ocean and A Drop in the Ocean, and fully composed From 44 to 48. Alan Parsons mixed How Was Your Ride, Jackal and We'll Never Be Apart.

I love "44 to 48". For some reason that song has really been resonating with me recently.

Lots of Floyd and Alan PArsons influence on 44, so I figured the man himself (AP) would be have been involved in that track. Surprisingly not. Also I was pretty confident the first track was SW's, so typical for him. Geffen is super influenced by him apparently

I was surprised to see that Family Man wasn't Wilson's song. Rhythm and melody was so typical of him.
