I've not really taken the time to get into power metal yet. I suppose it's time. Blind Gaurdian seems like a good band. I head Iced Earth and Nightwish were good too.
Iced Earth are more thrashy, and Nightwish is more operatic/symphonic. Nightwish is certainly an acquired taste, if you're just beginning to get into power metal than they might not give you the best 1st impression. Blind Guardian and Iced Earth are good choices (Iced Earth being more 'thrashy' than Blind Guardian).

If you're looking to get into BG, than is this is probably the best album to start off with.

Well said!

NIME is certainly a masterpiece by one of the most highly respected power acts and I can see why: the songs are meant to haunt you for a lifetime!

*sigh*
...and some people think metal died somewhere back in the late 80s...

Well, some of the tracks aren't really songs, but short interludes. For example, track one is just 2 minutes if battle sounds and some narration, and track two is the first 'actual song' on the album. So yea, they are.

This is my first review, so I can guarantee it's going to be pretty bad. Not that I care, I just thought it was fair to warn you.

No way. That was a great review!

great review man. I really think that mirror mirror has the greatest solo of all time. If that was somehow mixed in with the intro to Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark, then it would be the ultimate song

Good review. This CD is so good it's not even funny. Hansi is one of my favourite vocalists, such a great voice.

The Curse of Feanor takes multi layer vocals to the max! Sounds very cool. Mirror Mirror and Nightfall are my two favourite tracks but it's a great album all round (even though I don't have a clue what the lrics are on about)

One of my favorite power metal albums, and my choice for Blind Guardians best album. The lyrics arent "perfect", but they're damn good for power metal.

Hmm, I am very intrigued by the prospect of an album based on Tolkien's epic fantasy, The Silmarillion (yeah I'm a big fan of Tolkien). I think I will have to check this out. Nice review btw.

Wow I just listened to 'Nightfall' and the vocals are incredible. I was never the biggest fan of power metal but this....is awesome. The wierd thing is, the band I'm reminded of most is Queen. Has the same grandiose, epic, almost operatic feel to it at times. I have decided I must get this album.
