I was worried they were getting a little too consistent personally. Above the Weeping World was the last adventurous album until this, and everything in between was solid, but pretty by the books for them. This was a pleasant surprise but I'm really curious to see where they go from here.

I was referring more to the quality of their records being consistent, but of course their signature sound is very much prevalent throughout their entire discography. While I do prefer some albums over others, all of them have been thoroughly enjoyable. They always manage to incorporate new elements with each release to keep things fresh enough yet pleasantly familiar.

Still absolutely rules. The outro on part 6 is godly.

Yesterday live at Moscow was brilliant. The whole stage was moving and headbanging like crazy. The guys really pulled it off. They played the whole album, then some bonus songs.

Had an academic meeting with Ville supposed to last for 10 minutes but ended up spending like 20 minutes alone speaking about Insomnium and this. Awesome guy.

"More like above the "sleeping" world imo"
I am deeply offended

Ville is my lecturer at my university for Biology believe it or not and word spread once people found out. I had a meeting with him for a 3rd year project proposal and was not gonna miss the chance to talk about Winter's Gate.
It was cool, I asked about how he juggles being in a band and in academia, if he'd consider making Insomnium a full time job and what made them want to add black metal elements to their sound. He said that they're all black metal fans and played around with blast beats and thought it sounded pretty good, so let things continue from there.
