Talons, I remember finding the lyrics overwrought and occasionally unintentionally humorous.

Being familiar with Cave's previous work helps make more sense of these lyrics, despite it and Push the Sky Away being pretty much a completely new direction from everything before, and being more similar with his soundtracks.

I accept that I may not "get" this since I haven't listen to any of his other stuff, I only listened to it last year because of the rave reviews.

Sorry, didn't see the replies earlier about my 'Blackstar Syndrome' comment
For sure, lots of people were praising Blackstar before Bowie died, yeah. But I'd like to see the stats on the 5's dished out afterward. The site blew up with admiration for that album and I don't even think that's disputable. Where's macman when you need him? Maybe he can prove that wrong.
This album also got waaaaaay more attention on this site than any of his previous records and it was comment after comment about how tragic and heartbreaking it was, mostly in relation to his son's death. I'm glad lots of people like this because the attention for Cave was long overdue, but I think it is among his worst efforts regardless of subject matter (still gave it a positive rating). Again, obviously some people really like this and whether it was the tragedy that sparked such a rabid new fan base for Cave on this site or just the amount of attention drawn to it as a result, you'd have to be completely ignorant to think it wasn't a factor at all.
The comment I made was not without merit.

Album is great regardless of death context, just like Black Star
To me it doesn't matter much if people take even more meaning due to the deaths associated with them; I know I did.

To be clear, I'm not saying anyone has a wrong or false rating. I don't know what this album means to anyone personally. I'm merely commenting on the amount of attention and explosion of praise that both albums gained in comparison to their previous works and saying there is very likely a connection.
I know this has probably been argued many times in both threads, so sorry for bringing it back up. Not trying to shit in anyone's breakfast.
