That arguement holds no ground, regardless of what context it's in.

Iluvatar, I believe that you are way off base with that comment. Are you protecting my right to ask Neurotoxin to write a better review or condemning my attempt? I can't really tell. What I got to say: I have to go do homework, so we'll have to continue this one tomorrow. Can you tell me why that argument holds no ground? I can't see why it doesn't.

No more reviews of this... already like 20 on here... Anywho, I like that their's a negative review of this on here, I like how people can look through different reviews and see both sides of the argument

I personally swear by this album, but that's just me

Good review.

Because whether you can do better than what you're criticizing doesn't mean anything. Nothing at all.

great review, very thorough and well-defended, though I don't agree with your opinion of it in some areas.

How am I a fanboy? I haven't listened to this album in years and 10 000 Days was a huge disappointment.

Keep in mind this isn't a reviewing competition. I simply gave him my feedback, telling him to include more information about the music itself. I'm sorry I don't blindly post a thousand comments saying "Good review", and that's it. Oh, and honestly, the whole "like you could do better" thing is utterly ridiculous. This Message Edited On 05.24.06

Is this going to be like the Angels And Airwaves review? That wouldn't be good....

Meh, at least we're actually talking about the album.

I listen to this album alot and I still give it a 5.

Then again, I've only recently gotten into Tool.

This album was boring to me at first. I realized though that Tool's music (especially this album) takes time to sink in. You have to have MANY listens to absorb all there is to take in. I hope you come to find this true, because I think anybody who has a knowledge of music or plays music would come to appreciate this album and enjoy it. good review though.

Fantastic review, even though I disagree. It was superbly written and you supported your ideas very strongly.

Top notch!

I dunno. I've given it around twenty listens in the past five years, and not to brag but I do listen to much more complex and harder to get into CDs than Tool. It just seems overly long for me. I acutally do enjoy parts of it, it's just the other parts like the useless interludes, and some of the same ideas popping up on every song makes it get boring quick. This Message Edited On 05.25.06This Message Edited On 05.25.06

Complex, not really.

Enjoyable, yes

Overhyped, yes

Mindlessly slated, yes.

If the 'filler' tracks had been intergrated into the respective songs they introduce, there may have been fewer complaints.

There are many albums better, but without this one, I would never have found anything beyond the mainstream

Good review. I actually like this album, and have been rediscovering it lately. Lateralus, Schism, The Grudge and quite a lot of the Disposition/Reflection/Triad suite are all fantastic, and if they were capable of cutting an album down to below 60 minutes, I'd probably love this. As it is though, it's still a very solid four.

Sorry I acted like a little child last night. I apologize, especially to Iluvatar. You were delivering an unbiased opinion on my argument, and I would expect nothing less. Again, sorry everybody.

What i don't get is why you bad mouth the song "Lateralus" it is my personal favorite on the album, by the way u missed spelled "filler" and i don't get how you think Lateralus is a filler track, it follows the album's theme of change, Lateral (sideways) instead of forward and back, and theres probably a lot more hidden themes that Maynard conjured up, but in my opinion i think you highly under rate this album. I don't think it's boring at all, but maybe because my attention span is not nearly as short as others

when tool made 10,000 Days, they definitely didn't move forward, so I think Lateralus would be a better name for THAT album!

Have you even listened to Aenima?! That is what Tool do in their songs, include interludes in parts of their songs. While I do agree I skip some of the interludes, e.g. Useful Idiot, Intermission, Cesaro Summability, (-) Ions, etc, it does NOT mean that the rest of the album is boring.

SAME IDEAS? Are you sure you REALLY listened to this album 20 times like you said? Because in your case, you haven't. If you were talking about 10,000 Days in terms of "same ideas in every song", I would have understood what you meant, but this is Lateralus, not 10,000 Days.

Every song on Lateralus is completely different than the previous track and you pretty much acted like you were following the trend of people to don't like Tool, so what do you do? You make a review on, quite possibly, Tool's greatest achievement to date, and you had the nerve to say that you hated Reflection and Lateralus, which are, in my opinion, one of the biggest highlights on the album.

Had the band concentrated on making shorter and better songs, like “Schism” or parts of “Reflection” I think Tool would have succeeded at making a timeless, original, and most of all relevant album.

That made me laugh. You seriously think that this album is not original? You think this album is NOT "timeless and relevant"?

Lines like “We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been” and “Wear the grudge like a crown of negativity” just seem to want to be serious and it makes them less emotional. That’s the real lack that I find in his lyrics, the lack of emotion. But all in all this lyrical attack is probably all based heavily in my personal opinion.

This right there is where you made me enraged. You're saying that Maynard's lyrics on this album have no emotion?!?! They are supposed to have deep meaning to them and you, quick frankly, don't understand what that means.
