"so it's probably their least consistent album"

Can't argue with that, and they ended it in such a low key way with Liberation. You need a big memorable finale on an album like this.

is anyone else getting terra incognita vibes from some of the riffs on here?

Yep, that's the closest comparison I could give for the riffs and overall feel of the album.

They just dialed back everything that I liked about them and that's a huge bummer. The Way of all Flesh and L'Enfant Sauvage were so awesome and this is just letting me down.

I've been loving this whole album. I get it if some people miss their previous pacing, but this is way more interesting than L'Enfant Sauvage and tighter and less repetitive than The Way of All Flesh.

From Mars to Sirius is still better, but it's fucking From Mars to Sirius.

I dig it, overall. "Lowlands" little minute long acoustic with haunting vocal/synth effect could've ended the album nicely. Curious to their idea behind the final acoustic jam track, "Liberation".

I am guessing it made the album because it was probably pretty personal jam to the Duplantier brothers. It might have been a final send off for her. Just a big hypothetical, though. Interested to hear about it.

Favorite tracks: Stranded, Pray, The Cell

liberation is so vacant, there's practically nothing happening. really boring that they dragged that out to 4 mins

Strangely enough, the vocal lines of the Shooting Star remind me of the song Horse With No Name.

Best part is the pinch harmonic melody SQUOOOO SQUOOO SQUEEEE SQUOOOOO in the title track.

But why are the drums soooooo basic on this? Mario is an amazing drummer but he doesn't do much on this entire album.
