Still not sure how Prodigal Son isn't getting more love. Talked to the guys at the Black Dahlia tour and they were telling me how stoked they were to be going on tour with DP and BTBAM because they could play Prodigal Son and Wind for Wings live.

Honestly I think that is their crowd. I fully expect them to go over well with the BTBAM fans. Also they were awesome live - sounded amazing.

Yeah they sounded excellent live. They opened with 'Cerebral Hybridization' and I fucking lost my mind. That whole first album is flawless imo. They closed with 'Sapphire' and I about died lol.

Holds up better than I thought it would now that some time has passed. Not to minimize what they've done here -- but GOD -- can you imagine what their next record will sound like if they continue this progression?

this sounds more like a regression from tfp tbh

yea tfp is better but this definitely takes the style they were going for further. certainly on a couple specific songs at least

Yeah TFP had a couple more standout tracks but you can tell they took a new direction in terms of atmosphere and general "aesthetics" of the sound. I hope they do something really off the wall.

really? I haven't listened to this in a while, but I remember it being a simplified version of TFP with almost nothing new added. atmosphere on that album worked better for me too, this gets kinda boring about halfway through. The Void Alone rules tho.

last 4 songs are some of the most 4 pointless songs thrown in album, might have been a 3.5 if it ended after Amber Gaze.

I agree adr. I felt the same way. Amber Gaze is great though.

Some tracks stood out to me as really good, like The Void Alone, The Prodigal Son, Amber Gaze, and I actually dig Les Silences for its spacey atmosphere, something which is kinda spread out across the album. But overall this didn't impress me, which is a shame. The production feels too polished imo and there's just not a lot of variety or things that stick out as being interesting. Don't get me wrong it's nice enough and certainly not a bad album, it straddles between a 3 and a 3.5 for me, but it's definitely lacking something.

Reasons why this is better than TFP

1. Production that doesn't make me want to slice my ass in half
2. See reason #1

I still think TFP beats this out overall but yeah the production of this album is vastly superior.
