Pleasantly surprised by this. I didn't much care for Enjoy Eternal Bliss and I wasn't really expecting to dig this either, but nah, this is gorgeous.

p4k review surprisingly positive. seems they consider this to be a big step up from the debut.

Just downloaded this from Amazon.co.uk because it was only £4. Be wary that there is a lot of distortion during the louder sections on this download. For some reason the volume of the files has been pushed higher than it should be and caused clipping distortion. Not sure if the Amazon.com version will be the same but maybe it will be. I simply deleted it and kept the leaked version on my computer instead. Had a similar experience recently with the Whirlpool album by Chapterhouse -- Amazon version sounded absolutely horrible so I got it on iTunes instead. I think I'm done with Amazon music downloads at this point.

there is nothing remotely generic about this album.

This is a little better this time around. The problem is that they don't know how to make their minimalistic interludes sound interesting and they rely on strings too much, but the climaxes are fantastic, even if they are simplistic. The crescendo at the end of Golden Threads From The Sun reminds me of Mono a lot.

i dont really get mono from this. sounds mucch more like Ef. mono is generally a lot darker imo.

Ef???? And I wouldn't call Mono dark, more melancholic. The guitar tones and that particular crescendo really gives me that vibe idk about anyone else.

Ef. You don't think it sounds like Ef? The aesthetic of this album throughout is very similar to Ef. If you haven't heard Ef, here's an example:

Oh shit that's a band name lol. Never heard of them. I thought you were abbreviating a band, I was like who the fuck is he talking about xD
|

Well, yeah maybe. It sounds like a better version of them perhaps. But it's very similar. I don't know how anyone can think this album doesn't sound almost exactly like Ef.

Even the artwork is a similar colour pallet and general aesthetic to what Ef would use. I'm not necessarily saying this album is inspired by them because they started working on it so long ago. I think it's coincidence. But I do think the general mood and musicianship of this album is incredibly similar. It's that bright, hopeful, autumn/leafy kinda sound I don't know.

It's a bit samey throughout. Wish they'd switch things up a bit somehow, but everything is fairly well executed.

I definitely see the Ef vibes, but I agree this is better than anything Ef have put out. It's similar in the sense they both have that same classical influence and hopeful outlook to the songs. This album and Ef's 'Ceremonies' have plenty of similarities, without getting in each others way, IMO.

I disagree that it's samey, the band varies it a good amount all considered I think. I think I love that they held off any immediate vocals til the build up on the last song
