As a not fan of either of these groups, I can say that I am also not a fan of this. I might not 'get' it but there's absolutely nothing about this that I find even slightly good.

This feels a bit inconsistent, but overall I enjoy it. I think my problem is that while I enjoy spoken word, a lot of Kozelek's more recent stuff is very focused on either talking or shouting. I kinda miss the Mark who wrote Moorestown or Grace Cathedral Park, and he does have the ability to put in really nice vocal harmonies, something he has gotten a bit lazier with. Favorite song by far on this album is Exodus, which has a really nice atmosphere and some really good vocals, as well as having those trademark Kozelek-lyrics. The ending of it is just perfect.

Yeah, I feel you. I miss the Ghosts of the Great Highway era Kozelek. This is still pretty good though, it's just a bit too long.

I enjoy both artists already, so I really dig this record.

Mark Kozelek seems to get inspiration for writing lyrics from absolutely everything. And it's part of the magic here.

this is nice but none of the songs go anywhere which is kind of frustrating cuz they are all fucking long

If the songs on this were structured more like typical rock songs with choruses, kind of like old Sun Kil Moon with Broderick doing the heavier music, it could have been totally amazing.
Something about it is still captivating though, the meandering just doesn't really fit, the music is too emotional and moving to have lyrics about cooking chili over it.

Fragile is a fantastic track. Probably my favourite on the album.
Was lucky enough to see Sun Kil Moon late last year, didn't realise how good a voice Mark had live. Really funny on stage as well, just acts like a grumpy old man :D

It was fun while it lasted, Mark
