Review Summary: Twenty One Pilots, emotional, inspirational, upbeat, and original, increasing rapidly since the release of the new hit album Blurryface is certainly the "must listen to" album so far this year.
Twenty One Pilots, made up of singer Tyler Joseph and guitarist Josh Dun, formed in Columbus, Ohio in 2009. Their fame in the music business has been steadily increasing since their break through song "Car Radio" on their 2011 album "Freedom At Best" lead by "Holding On To You" from the same album, and most recently, "Tear In My Heart" from 2015 album "Blurryface".
Rapidly, it seems, after the release of Blurryface, the fans of Twenty One Pilots has been growing. Though the electric pop sound of the band can, for some, be hard to appreciate, Twenty One Pilots uses emotion and wit to create songs with originality and creativity that many cannot ignore. Unlike most music in the electric pop category, along with rap and hip hop, usually repetitive and slow anticlimactic lyrics and rhythms, TOP somehow manages to produce music that is not all about sex, drugs, etc. ( hip hop and rap being a category I feel strongly against )
With lyrics such as "Sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when I was young/How come I'm never able to identify where it's coming from?/I'd make a candle out of I ever found it/Try to sell it, never sell out of it, I'd probably only sell one" can lead people to think of the band as a typical witty hip hop band with little meaning, but other lyrics such as "My lungs will fill and then deflate/They fill with fire, exhale desire" and "Sometimes you have to kill you're mind to stay alive" that clearly state otherwise.
Some may enjoy Twenty One Pilots for its upbeat tempo and hip rhythms, while others enjoy the emotional and inspirational lyrics, the band is certainly too talented to ignore, and Blurryface being the best example of that talent yet.
