The thing is that these albums are getting a lot more play then typical political hip-hop albums, which is good.

ok, but by using the words "fellow odd future alum" that suggests they both graduated from odd future but whatever.

if youre a fellow something or other it generally means you were both doing the same thing so yea that sentence says he was in OF, just take out the fellow and youre good

'm not trying to say TPAB is overrated or that it's not strong-footed in its stance, i'm saying that a lot of (mostly white) critics are making assertions that it's an epoch generating political statement when in fact it's just another political hip-hop album (albeit a very good one).

word. i just think a lot of black people also feel super strongly abt the album, and that focusing on white peoples' reactions to kendrick's album is prob the opposite of what he desires if that makes sense?? i don't mean to sound confrontational or anything i just think it is an idea worth parsing out : )

yeah as much as I love TPAB (I have it 5'd) and want to see it reach the epic heights that many critics have cliamed the album has already reached, I don't think that's going to happen for a while

'when in fact it's just another political hip-hop album'

Agreed.

Shit, TPAB isn't the super important album everyone touts it to be and the hyperbole was at lvl 9000 when the album was released.

From the half of this I've heard, this shit is just as political, but it isn't Kendrick- a rapper that previously had huge commercial success- so it can't be as important.

Sorry, that is the last I will bring my abhorrence of TPAB and the hype surrounding it into this thread. I will jam the rest of this. So far the beats are doing it for me, but not so much anything else.

Good review, thought the extensive kendrick comparison was unnecessary but you did a good job of interpolating it

Very surprised by this album, pretty much everything he's ever done prior to this has been straight average but he did this shit right
