Interesting discussion above RE overstuffed hip hop albums. I never understood why so many artists just stuff their albums to the brim. Surely they can look to classics like Illmatic as lessons in quality over quantity?
That's why shorter hip hop albums are a revelation to me - for example DOOM albums, Aesop Rock's later stuff, those Run the Jewels LPs or Atrocity Exhibition.

It's because of the way billboard tracks album sales in the digital age. More songs on an album leads to more potential singles, and when single song sales count toward a whole album's sales numbers, those singles are very important. I hate it too.

Its too bad... Cuz they almost always end up being 65% filler b.s.

Testing was great tbh but there's a few tracks like Changes, Kids Turned Out Fine, Black Tux, etc that should've been scrapped.
|
| |
I still need to check this (and the rest of his pre-2018 stuff)
And yeah agreed Jeet, should’ve had more tracks like Distorted Records and Tony Tone instead. Those tracks are ugly af in the best way possible
