Enslaved is really solid, but imo they haven't released anything truly fantastic. They have some damn good albums (like this, Below The Lights, and Vertebrae) but there's something that keeps them from being fantastic. I used to really like their older stuff (mainly "Eld and Blodhemn) but they've grown off me considerably.

I just got Eld and I love every moment of it, especially '793'!

I just saw that you voted for Vertabrae and as a metalhead who really liked Ruun and their newer stuff, will I enjoy that album? This Message Edited On 08.31.08

Yeah, I really loved Eld at first, but then I just stopped enjoying it as much as I originally did. I'd change the rating to a 3.5 if I could. 793 is amazing though, and ironically the shorter songs. The 8 minute tracks are kinda eh imo.

Vertebrae may be my favorite album of their tbh (though i only first heard it 4-5 days ago), it's similar to Ruun, only slightly more technical maybe, and with generally longer songs. You should check it out definitely, the first two tracks are fantastic.

I am listening to Eld for the first time right now. Be interested in a review - these guys seem to have quite a few tricks

My only problem with Eld is that they take a good idea and stretch it out too far. I like their new stuff alot because they found a way to condense their ideas into shorter, but more efficient songs.

Well yes, Isa is quite a streamlined album, I think. Even Neogenesis feels a lot shorter than it is. But 793 was pretty sweet - it has just ended, so I've yet to discover whether the rest drags at all.

imo the three 8 minute tracks in the middle drag, but the 3 other tracks (and 793) are pretty awesome.

But like I said before, it got old fast for me. It was once a high 4.5 for me but now is a solid 3.5.

They do drag a bit, I admit, but the captivating moments on Eld are simply stunning.

I didn't think anything would beat Traced In Air this year. I was sadly misinformed because Enslaved brought their best album to date with Vertebrae. Still my fav b.m band, can't wait till it drops fro a real copy.

Their is a little something special & mysterious about the way the music of Enslaved is construct & i like it a lot.

An on/off relationship, i listen to them in phase.

(like a lot of music in fact)

IMHO Black_Metal is evolving & changing for the better,

I agree, these guys have generally alwaysproved to be one of the most consistent and quality long running Norwegian b.m bands around. Have you heard Vertebrae yet?

This album has a really strong atmosphere. Even though the production is quite polished and the songwriting very developed and sophisticated, when they go into one of their black metal parts, it sounds bleak as ever.

These 4 pieces are so sublime.... Lunar Force riffs/melody/harmony are intriguing & captivating;
