Somehow the band has to make up for the lack of productivity. But we're not ones they're fooling if they think, that that justifies 5 year album cycles. Then again, I wouldn't mind a 160 min. long double LP for 10KD anniversary.

for me the t/t wouldn't make sense without Wings.

oh please no, their albums are already nigh unbearable (in one sitting), and they're only 75 minutes long.

for me the t/t doesn't make sense without wings AND viginti tres.

I'm still pretty skeptical about the whole synchronization thing. I tried it and it sounded like crap
|

it depends on how well you sync them. "viginti" you can throw in without worries, it'll always sound fine, but "wings" you have to place in carefully, so that the riffs from ~9:15 in "10,000 Days" and ~4:13 in "Wings" are synced perfectly (i remember reading somewhere a proof why it has to be done this way, but tbh the best argument for it is that it sounds the best this way).
Then the experience is wonderful, the way the songs work together is terrific, my favourite being the ~8:20 mark, and the way the ending goes gradually more and more out-of-sync is really rather genuine.

Maybe I didn't sync it right but when I did it it didn't sound that different to me.

Do you reckon Rosetta nicked Tool's idea for the whole synchronicity thing for their album The Galilean Satellites?
Plus, it is a bit like the alternate order for Lateralus. Now THAT is cool.
|
| |
no, i'm almost positive some crazy hippies would have done something like that back in the 60s possibly even before
also 10,000 days was 2006 and galilean satellite is 2005

Sounded pretty good to me. Like alter said though, if you didn't make sure it synched up properly then it would sound like a mess
|
| |
i attempted to do it with audacity but it didn't work properly
there was a bit at the start that was at the same time between the two tracks, but as the song(s) went on they gradually went out of sync and i don't think that's meant to happen
|
| |
oh i just read altertide's comment "and the way the ending goes gradually more and more out-of-sync is really rather genuine." so i guess i had it right
|
| |
I could upload the version I made (on audacity as well) if anyone is interested. Plenty of versions already on youtube though

"Tool gladly throw in 15+ minutes of filler on every album just to fulfill their 80 minute runtime quota, except Lateralus which thankfully only had about 5 minutes."
Yeah, but tool is probably the only band that even fills up the disc, being that most artists shoot for anywhere between 30 min to an hour.

Dream Theater and Tori Amos are (in)famous for doing that as well.
IMO the perfect album length is about 40 minutes.

I think ideal length varies a lot depending on the genre/artist

listening a full Tool album is a struggle agreed.

Only one I struggle to get through is Undertow tbh. The other 3 I can listen to pretty easily
