Hand. Cannot. Erase. was released in February, so he could have been talking about it (I mean, preorders are a thing), but even if he was talking about The Raven, that still means his solo career is more successful than PT.

Right. I don't care one way or the other because his last with Porcupine Tree wasn't great either. Like he said in the interview, if he can't think of anything to do with PT without treading old ground why bother. I think people unfairly judge musicians as if inspiration is just a given.

Well I'd agree with your point about inspiration, except that SW had like 5 side projects and they all sounded different. So he does have a few different ideas in his head. Plus if he wants PT to be more of a band effort (which I was wanted for many years before their hiatus), then that means the music will probably be different from the last few albums.

Anyway like alter said, he's enjoying his solo career way too much at the moment to do another PT album. If he does a No-man album though I'd be content

A little bit. It's the man's worst album imo, and that's saying a lot since Raven was pretty average

I really don't get the hate on this, certainly it isn't the most original album ever, but it is well performed and it is a pleasent listen, so I honestly don't get ratings below 3.0

a mostly disappointing album with one really good track (ancestral) and one really abysmal track (t/t)

My fav on here is Ancestral, too. There are, like, two or three tracks I actually liked on this album. Didn't care and/or hated the rest.

ancestral sucks, this is the track that should have been called routine

actually whole album should have been titled routine, that would have been accurate

I like Insurgentes a lot, and Grace for Drowning is decent... but his latest two releases range from average to terrible, imo.

Luminol is a perfect song, can't see why anyone would dislike it

Raven and what a listener can take out of it really boils down to how much he/she likes 70's prog rock, it pays direct hommage to that phase of progressive music. However, while I do love Steven's influences (Rush, King Crimson, etc), I feel Raven delivers its tribute to the genre in a non-organic and overall tedious way, it doesn't even feel substantial or focused at all. Insurgentes mashes many of Wilson's influences in a more cohesive fashion, I think. And while I'm not huge on Grace for Drowning, I'd still pick it over Raven. Steven's solo discography is one of constant decline, for me. Insurgentes 3.5/5, Grace 3/5, Raven 2.5/5 and this 2/5.
