its a massive letdown, even for pearljam fanboys like myself. ZERO of the songs come close to being as memorable as the likes of 'once' and 'yellow ledbetter'.
cant say im impressed by self-titled. i dig 'unemployable' though

It's not quite grunge, yet it doesn't have enough balls to be rock either. It's just flat out uninspiring.

this aint anywhere near as good as ten... but not much is

I really enjoyed this album. I bought it and had never heard ANY Pearl Jam before it. I'm certainly glad I did.
Nice review man.

Man I still have to get this...:upset:

I've only heard world wide suicide. It was a pretty good song but not something that wowed me and at the high notes vocals sounded "strained". I still think Ten is their classic. Purely IMO though

i bought this album because of the single world wide suicide, and life wasted. But im a little dissapointed in the album. tracks 1-6 are the highlights, but it just goes downhill from there.

I cannot help myself, but..I listened to this record and somehow I got really disappointed. And after reading this review...well, they got back to the roots, that is true, still some things r missing though. The sound is awesome - I would not expect anything else from them after all those yesterdays :-) But I always appreciated 3 things about PJ - strong melodies, Eddie's various voice changes and brilliant lyrics. All of this I am missing. The record sounds hard, but there is nothing more under it, Eddie is screaming...it is not just about screaming, he cannot change his expression and the lyrics...lot of phrases in every song. They r a great band, i bought a ticket for their Prague concert recently as I have never seen them on stage before and even if I do not like the last album that much (I gave it POOR), they influenced me deeply with their music. Maybe it is just a sort of attitude - I have always favoured their not-very-grunge-and-traditional rock-sound-like records (No Code, Binaural) and this is a sort of comeback to Ten, BUT (How many but was in this comment?) it still sounds like they have nothing else to offer, like they know the form, but cannot put any soul into it. Which is a little disillusion for me. Hopefully this won't be the case with their September concert in Prague...I could say more about it, but I said the core of my opinion, we can talk :-) Sorry for my poor english, it is getting better all the time :-D

updated rating 2.5-3/5. This is my first Pearl Jam experience and its starting to grow on me. Im starting to respect the type of grunge that they can deliver. Sort of feel good music. But im going to get me an earlier Pearl Jam album and see what i can get out of that.

I saw these guys in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a couple of months ago. IT WAS KICK @SS!!! They played alot of the songs from this album (duh, that's why they are touring) and I liked them alot. I really liked Life Wasted and WWS. I gotta pick this up!

Good review. Totally agree with the rating. I guess we'll all have to settle with the fact that PJ will never be as good as "Ten" ever again. BUT I will say this, the new songs sound WAY better live then they do on record. And THAT's what makes PJ one of the best bands of all time.

I finally got this album. I didn't get excited when I heard about it, but this album actually is really good. Nice review too, Dan.
