I have a soft spot for Jessica. One of the first pre-Vulgar tunes I stumbled upon, and one I like revisiting regardless of how dated it sounds.

"Akuro no Oka" is so beautiful and melancholic.

Yeah obviously, amazing piece. Was just kind of pointing out that he might be the most underrated member of the band.

To me it's Kaoru, since he's the main drive of the band's songwriting/creative adventures and he's also the band leader. Really chilled out guy too, if you see more live shows you hear Toshiya screams a lot so he's appreciated by plenty of the fanbase.

I was thinking in regards to skill level but otherwise agreed, yes. Saw making of Uroboros yesterday. SUPERchill guy haha

Ah okay I get your point now, yeah I'd agree with that. I think the band in general gets too much shit for their level of skill, despite the fact that performing DSS live (i.e. An album recorded in separate parts, never performed in the same studio together) without much rehearsal or much thought of the live sound was a terrible idea.

At the end of the day it's songwriting that counts. I think the skill level is there (Kyo obviously), although the creativity and their unique approach is what sets them apart from many bands. I reckon the live DSS is still worth watching (?).

Kyo is at a level very, very few vocalists can touch and is the main reason why this band is irreplaceable. But I see people shit on the rest as musicians which is definitely think is too harsh, although it is true they're better songwriters than musicians which is what matters at the end of the day as you said. DSS at Budokan is joint 1st for my fav show of all time, anything below a 5 in my eyes is pushing it if you like the band.

I mean Shinya doesn't go nuts on the double bass but he's tight as hell. That counts for something to say the least, as a drummer myself. Although there's a bit more to his playing than that.

Shinya never learned how to do blast beats/doing nuts on double bass or he just simple doesn't care/or show it, the whole band since late 2012 have become air tight. But yeah DSS at Nippon Budokan is beyond essential, definitely better than Arche's Budokan in my opinion despite that being an damn awesome show.

Will be watching that one soon.
PS. Shinya does a few quick blasts in The Inferno if I remember right ;)
