still one of my favorite reviews on this site. Album is rich as fuck, and the vinyl pressing did it justice and a half. The vibe is wicked intense, and like none other.

"and like none other."
which makes me sad..

BeeRyan: Thank you! And agreed, if I ever get a vinyl player this will be one of the first albums I buy.

@Calc I think a lot of what makes this so unique is that it varies a lot from song to song. if a band were to copy this, i don't even know where they'd start, tbh.
@lambda, i think the blue version of the record is on sale at hot topic right now. and I can't imagine this is going to be pressed again. i have the orange/yellow one but the blue one looks just as terrific. i'd say move in now and save yourself a ton of regret later.

a lot of FNM and some Dillinger has the same vibe as this - it's not as unique as all that

Album still rules hard, glad I bought this on a whim

I need to listen to this album way more

ridiculously good album from an unlikely source. shame the follow-up was determined to be a commercial grab by regressing to WIITB's style when this so clearly shows how much more they had to experiment with

BeeRyan jeeez okay, thanks for the heads up
Rowan5215: I can hear the influence of those two bands but I wouldn't call the vibes THAT similar, really
DirEnRefused: Yeah, Back to Oblivion was bitterly disappointing. It appears they got gunshy, sadly

I wonder if I would still enjoy this today..

i don't think this is that dillinger-y at all, aside from Casket, obviously. as far as post-hardcore goes, this is pretty much stands alone in its own corner of left field.

@Lambda - Oblivion wasn't bad at all though. I mean, it was miles better than burn, and nowhere near as good as Sunshine, but on its own, oblivion was pretty good.

oblivion wasn't bad just meh. and not surprising at all if you read any of the band's interviews before its release. which is why i don't try and guess their state of mind in making it.

What makes you say that, Calc? The part about interviews and the state of mind?

they stated they liked the energy of WIITB were going to try and go that direction again with oblivion. they said they only made SHTS essentially to validate themselves in the eyes of their peers.

oh, i getcha now. it's too bad that their attempt to validate themselves is a million miles better than anything else they did, ha

Someone recorded the whole one-off SHTS show, fantastic quality. Soooo good! Although hearing Pappas play the drums to this album flawlessly kind of makes me wonder why he phoned it in on the new album.

when i saw them live in april, he didn't really impress me on any of these tracks. they played ink, insomniatic meat, and brother bleed brother if i recall, and he didn't bring it like i was hoping he would. they seemed pretty unimpressed by the crowds tho, so maybe that was it.

Yeah it did seem that Nate wasn't feeling it or putting in 100% like he did on the WIITB tour. Probably because it's harder to sing, or maybe he just didn't like the record in the first place.
