"but punk is supposed to sound like shit, basic music, I things progressing, to a point,"
Well that's your problem. Stop putting it into a box

I did chuck, the stooges raw power, ramones too tough to die, I mean the Casualties even mixed punk and metal, and some progression, Black flags change of style. Come to think of it the early thrash movement was a blend of punk and metal, master of puppets could of been the shape of punk to come, in the earlier era, the damned changed styles often

love the stooges and ramones but they dont sound like this at all imo

"I like the album, but think it is not that far ahead of its time, just a mix of different genres, been done before, many times. I mean christ, Raw power was a progression in the grand scheme of punk with the different arrangements and instruments introed in mix that was done 25 years before the great Refused"
so any mixture of different genres is irrelevant because some band already mixed some genres?

Artuma, am not saying that, but it does NOT mean that the album is ahead of its time, or great, it is great but not to the point that you guys say it is, great album, but not the be all end all

you're right, the credit this album gets for its experimentation is a little overrated but it's still quite phenomenal and you can't find albums that sounded quite like this when look at the time it was made. plus, a large amount of bands have cited this album as their influence

If the nation of ulysses sounds like this album then I'll be sure to check them within the next week

it doesn't sound the same but these guys borrowed a lot of the experimentation from them

I mean, if you look at the album's popularity now and then you can't possibly deny that it was WAY ahead of its time. It just was
