I can understand people listening to this and being disappointed because of PBTT's previous works, but given I had no real impression of these guys prior to this album, I'm absolutely loving it. Kinda happy I didn't have existing impressions to weigh down my opinion of this album.

"Kinda happy I didn't have existing impressions to weigh down my opinion of this album." I mean, yeah my enjoyment of TLLA might be affecting my judgement, but I just found this thing lifeless and dull, just on par with a slew of other post-rock emo bands.

Think we're gonna have to agree to disagree here johnny, cuz I find it polar opposite of "lifeless and dull."

yeah i might be in the minority here. i've listened several times and I honestly can't remember any gripping moments. Though I might think differently now, as I haven't listened in a while

Try listening to April and wait for 3:27 onward to the end. Amazing build up to a strong finishing chorus.
Lesions ending portion is also a fine example, albeit it isn't a chorus. "Oh I've been soooooo... touch and go!..... I found myself moving my legs to make sure I still care... and telling myself I don't have time!!!..."
Repine's motions toward a faintly positive "Your wick won't burn away."
I could give more, but I'll leave ya with that. This album's musical buildups match some pretty emotionally striking (and incredibly well thought-out) lyrics. You really can't turn your ear away from any of this if you want the full effect. Also, if you still are, stop comparing this to previous works. I don't think that'll help you.

when i first heard TLLA i found it as unmemorable as this one, not because it's not a gripping album, but because the songs are crafted in a way that takes multiple listens to understand their full scope. i felt the same about this one. had to listen for about a week constantly switching back and forth between it and RTJ2 before it clicked.

I kinda think of it like a way more condensed and accessible post rock record.
