..He did probably one of the best discs and one of the worst discs of the year. Nobody should pretend to like it if it's not actually good.

I only care about the Ziltoid disc. I'm going to go with the best track being Earth and the weak one War Princess, at least for me. Still overall Z1 better.

woops I already commented on this sorry for the double. forgot about that

I could only get into Sky Blue when this came out - couldn't get into Dark Matters. Gave Dark Matters another listen this morning and really enjoyed it so I guess it's about being in the right frame of mind to get into it - that's what makes the fact this is a double album so weird - they are very, very different albums and it's not a good idea to listen to this 'double album' in full.

Looking forward to seeing Dark Matters + fan favourites set at the Royal Albert Hall tonight!

"First Ziltoid was much worse than this."

So hard. It had some moments for sure, but it was a painfully average album. This doesn't have any Hyperdrive moments, but it's definitely miles more listenable

Brah if I hated fun every Devy record would be a 1.0

Also 3.5/5 =/= 8.0/10

Ehhhhhh, can't argue with that.

I just wish tracks like Sky Blue and Silent Militia didn't anger me so much. I want to 4 this.

I think I am the only one on the planet that likes Sky Blue more than Dark Matters

Sky Blue sounds like a nu-metal soundtrack to a Disney movie

Verses in Rejoice...The stupid boneheaded riffs in Silent Militia...Verses in Silent Militia (in fact most of that song)...Ridiculous lyrics like "This world seems arrogant, sick and demented" or "As we're born to ride alone/Never to return" or "I never wanted to be in this place, did you have to leave me cold?" or "Say you wanna feel it? You better step up!"

all have kinda a cheesy feelzy numetal vibe to them

That's because Sky Blue is a 3 for me, extremely disappointing.

Dark Matters is a 4.

I don't hate the album or anything, it was still enjoyable. 3 is just a bit disappointing when you're someone like Devin Townsend.

I enjoyed it for the first 10-15 spins without major drawbacks tbh. The fact that sky blue was the introduction to devy for me prob helped me enjoy it since I didn't knew his other way more interesting stuff back then

That's why I loved Deconstruction, it got me into Devin so I can understand that. Deconstruction seems like a love it or hate it kind of album.
