With Logics first debut album, many may be wondering who exactly is Logic? Logic is a rapper hailing from Maryland; known specifically for aggressive, and fast wordplay. His first mixtape Young, Broke, and Infamous describes exactly were he was when he started. Flash forward to his newest mixtape Welcome To Forever, Logic gets his time to shine. Logic gets signed by Def Jam records finally making it to the big time. After four free mixtape's, Logic is ready to make his first debut album known to hip hop. Appropriately titled Under Pressure; it is a great first step for rapper Logic. Let us discuss if the pressure will make a diamond,or coal out of Logic.
One of the first tracks we get a taste of Soul Food shows off the production right away.The aggressive wordplay is as strong as ever! Under Pressure also proves to be Logic’s most personal project to date.On Soul Food Logic talks about food stamps, eviction notices, stealing, his mom on drugs, and his dad not being around. Another great part about the song is that the song climaxes half way through the song. The beat changes and Logic hits you with even more aggressive wordplay.Gang Related is another great song; when you hear the beat drop you know it will go hard.The double time flow is great to hear shine. The song is of course all about violence, and gangs in his hood from Maryland. He touches on deeper details such as selling crack to his dad.
Growing Pains 3 continues with Logic using double time flows. More of Logic opening up about food stamps, and his mom on drugs.Also he talks about selling weed. This songs theme is him talking about the things he did growing up. The idea is how he has grown now to be a dad. Metropolis has a smooth beat, and he spits fast on it too. It is also good to hear him sing. This song definitely shows a more creative side to it. It feels very laid back; and the beat has piano and saxophones on it.The title track Under Pressure is my favorite personal song on the album. The song hits on every possible note. Under Pressure has a nasty beat, with crazy wordplay from Logic. Under Pressure feature acapella’s and it is possibly Logic’s most personal song. Logic shares some details about his family, that I doubt they even wanted him to share.I could quote so many good lines from the song; but I would prefer you just listen to it and hear it for yourself.
A couple of really good bonus tracks on the deluxe edition I would not miss out on either. Driving Ms Daisy is a solid song with a catchy beat. Gambino kind of steals the show a little bit as Logics verse was a little short.Also another great track is Alright featuring Big Sean. Logic definitely kills this one with label mate Big Sean. Overall this is a great first album , from Logic that truly shines. I will say I miss a few novelties from his mixtape's. His friend C Dot Castro is missing; and it would have been nice to have seen him on a track. Also I miss the sound effects of Count Dooku, Childish Gambino, and Boondocks from his mixtape.Those sound effects always added a lot of hype. Overall though a great album to bump from Logic.
