I'm not a big fan of turn based games in general honestly
"Truth and Reconciliation Suite" and "Halo" are amazing. I love how the main theme ohhhhhh/ahhhhs are integrated into the signature string part so well.

Damn double post.

There are absolutely problems with turn-based games (if you grew up playing them like me you tend to gloss over them), but there's no denying how good the FF soundtracks are.

"@Storm I really liked the first one for its simplicity and Metroid-esque feelings of isolation, the 3rd was my favorite for
the scale of the fights though. Reach was the only campaign I didn't really enjoy. I haven't played the campaigns since
then, I should totally play through them again sometime soon."
Damn. The Metroid-esque isolation thing is why it's my favorite of all time too and also the few times you get marines it means something important and you want to protect them. There was also so much mystery to the lore back then and so much to realize about the first game over time. And to learn to fight against real people through system link. And to experience co-op for the first time. Oh gosh.

Yea this was pretty ground breaking in that sense for more ways than one. Also I'm pretty sure this was the first game to actually cut the player loose and let the player roam around in a wide open space as opposed to closed corridors inside.

That was mostly because it was originally gonna be an rts.

The piece One Final Effort from Halo 3 is by far one of the best video game songs I've ever heard.
You know your a badass when your driving a tank to the grand palace of your greatest enemy, barricaded by TWO SCARABS.

@hogan: dude, try killing those scarabs on foot, if you destroy them you feel like such a badass.
@Mongi: RTS: real time strategy, think Starcraft.

Oh I know what a rts is, I'm just confused what you meant in response to my comment.

Rts use larger open spaces, during development when they switched from rts to third person shooter and then to first person shooter they kept a lot of the open area designs and terrain, just reworked them for the Halo we know today.

Oh gotcha. I remember ign made a list of the top 100 video game moments and number 4 or something like that was stepping onto the ring for the first time. Apparently it was mind blowing at the time.

Should have been the intro to the flood, that shit was deserving of a reward.

Cool review, Is there any validity to the idea that the theme music is based on that death song from itp?

Thanks man, yea that one and that crazy string arrangement in the second track. It's like the signature piece that recurs in the original trilogy.

Yeah it's probably just a coincidence, though apparently Martin O'Donnell is a metalhead and you really can't deny the similarities between the two.
Under Cover of Night and Alien Corridors are among my favorites on here, I remember those levels in the game were among the most memorable too.

Amazon is your best friend for this situation :D
Also in Halo 2 I love the added addition of female vocals to the main theme it's beautiful.
