@Friday check out the 2nd and 3rd albums,
probably their best, Kj knows. I was jamming both
last night, good shit m/

Also Archaic rage's ending is fucking intense,
love it. Evergrey's use of vocal samples of
people in anguish works very well

Def! Honestly I think their 2nd-5th albums are all interchangeable in terms of quality.
-Solitude Dominance Tragedy has "Solitude Within" and "Words Mean Nothing" which are two of my absolute favs.
-In Search of Truth is their most progressive and prob their most accomplished musically.
-Recreation Day is their most powerful and just sounds massive.
-Inner Circle is very mature and personal.

Yeah man, I think Archaic Rage is the absolute highlight of this album.

God dam this album is brilliant. Best of the year for me, will take some beating in the remaining months to lose that title.

@Kj I think Solitude and ISOT are stronger than the rest, but the others aren't bad. I haven't listened to the debut properly but I enjoyed the first few tracks. Will check it in full soon since I'm in an Evergrey mood of late

Debut has a lot of the same darkness found on SDT and Tom's vocals are awesome on it. The cavernous echoey sound of it is kinda cool as well. The total package is pretty respectable for a young inexperienced band.
"When the River Calls" and "For Every Tear That Falls" are my personal favorites on it.

Now that I think about it I might even put When the river calls in my top 10 or 15 Evergrey songs.

May I know what you guys like so much about this record? I've only given it a couple of spins... but still... I loved "torn" and hated "glorious collision"... Torn had songs like "fail", that to me is a masterpiece... Couldn't find anything like that here... Not ready to give it a vote though....

My guess is you like the heaviness of Torn (which is easily the bands heaviest record). This album is more melody-focused and melodic as opposed to raw heaviness.
I'd probably recommend you check out Recreation Day next - which is somewhere in between the two.

Thanks KJ, I do like Recreation Day, but I'm more for "the inner circle", just don't know why...(probably production) Still my fav is Torn... I'll give this more time and see if it grows, I want to 4 this album so bad as to convince myself to buy the physical...
There's one thing that was pointed out in this review that "torn" has and I have not heard yet on this album... and that is those palm muted multi-note riffs... This album is kinda lazy in the guitar department...

I agree that this album is not spectacular in terms of the riffing and such; although I'd probably say the same about Torn to be honest. Their earlier, darker records have the coolest guitar work.
One thing is for sure: this album has grown on me more and more. (Been in the car CD player since I bought it). I hope it grows on you too man.

Just burned it Kj, I have a long car trip coming up, so I'll give it more spins and let it work its magic into me... I really wanna buy this album, I know you guys hate the artwork, but I like it...

The idea is cheesy but the colors and quality of
the artwork are great

I can't explain why but it actually looks good in person. I can see your Disturbed 10K comparison though (haha). And sweet, Piri, yeah let it sink in and grow.

The more I listen to this, I'm getting damn close to 5'ing. All the songs on here have caught on and resonated with me (with the exceptions of Barricades and The Fire which I find to both be boring albeit still decent).
