I know some people have really commented on the difference the new vocalist has made on the band and he definitely has added more variety to the vocals for sure. One of the other things I noticed right away though from the first song on the album is that I can really tell that they lost their lead guitarist. I agree with some of the others on this that sometimes the lead guitar work is really good but it's very inconsistent. The soloing itself is great and is a great addition to TIJ's sound as it was mostly missing in their previous albums. But not really until the last three songs is the great guitar lead work really noticed throughout the whole songs themselves. It's pretty apparent to me anyway that there is really only one guitarist on this album doing different parts in spots. He does a great job, but you can really hear the loss of the other guitarist in my opinion.

Yeah in retrospect that makes some sense. I think I noticed the leads more early on than others but even when there aren't leads I didn't really notice their absence too much which is quite a feat in itself.

Not sure how to feel about the comparisons with August Burns Red. I like August Burns Red a lot. Like a lot. But this band is meh. If compared to ABR, I feel it should be a "pretentious ABR"

I wouldn't say stupid. Just putting them on the same level is quite a bold move. ABR throw in a lot more to their music. More post-rock and even a little prog-gy. Not to mention way more experience.

Pretentious is definitely not the right word.
Actually this band only has one less album than ABR so not that much less experience.
This site loves to use the word pretentious way too much.

Maybe I didn't use the right word. I apologize, but I do see ABR in a different league with songs like "Creative Captivity," "Beauty in Tragedy," "Mariana's Trench," "White Washed," "Meddler," "Salt & Light" especially. I can see some similarities in vocals maybe but instrumentals don't really live it up, but that's just my opinion. I just see then as a bad comparison.

They can not live up to the influence and still be similar but the band is definitely a carbon copy of August Burns Red at least when ABR first started more so. Both bands have more distance between than they used to but the similarities are definitely there.

ABR is a much better band, it's not really that close.

I would say the gap is much closer after this album but ABR still comes out on top.

Great review and yeah, they actually pulled off a really cool album. Like you said, it isn't something really "new" for a metalcore band but an improvement nonetheless.

Thank you sir. Really sweet album.

Decamili seems to be a showcase of the bassist's, guitarist's and drummer's technical skills I guess. Pretty interesting to hear it on a mainstream metalcore album.

Great review!! I really like this record and am composing my review as we speak for Amps and Green Screens.
You make some excellent points as well. "Nooses" is arguably my favorite besides the instrumental
"Decamilli".

Pos'd. Checking this out now, hopefully I'll dig it as much as you do. I used to bump to these guys as filler between ABR albums, maybe they'll standout on their own now.
