Review Summary: Every moment is a chance to turn it all around

Scottish band Flood of Red are back with their sophomore album. Their debut album 'Leaving Everything Behind' came out over 4 and half years ago. With 'Throw' taking so long to craft the band show a real growth and maturity this time around.

Gone are the post-hardcore days to be replaced with melodic rock. 'Throw' will take a few listens to truly appreciate due to its depth. Songs are at times eerie, haunting and beautiful.

Whereas the previous album had a similar sound with each song. the songs this time are varied. 'Lashes' is the first single and is a great alluring song, 'Cutting Limes' has a groovy vibe while 'Ye Die, Ye Die’ haunts with an almost folk twist.

'Hiding Out' is the highlight of the album. The memorable chorus is sung with true passion by frontman Jordan Spiers "When I was growing up I never thought that I would see myself go on living a struggle" with an optimistic finish "I know every moment is a chance to turn it all around".

Album closer 'White Russian' perfectly demonstrates their new mature sound. A lot of the songs are sad with a high emotional impact on the listener.

Throughout 'Throw' Flood Of Red unearth songs with sweet vocals displaying expression through imagery, feature both slow and aggressive guitars while still managing to pull of a melodic atmospheric theme.

Recommended tracks: Throw, Hiding Out, Lashes, Whispers and Choirs

"also this isnt their sophomore album, its their 3rd."

It's their sophomore. I won't listen to this but it's good to know this band has apparently got better.

Maybe the best underrated/unknown album I've ever heard. Absolutely superb. Could become a 5 at some point.

Well, at some point I said. Not sure about it yet. But it's a huge step up from their debut and a thoroughly amazing album nevertheless, so who the hell cares.
