i like this album well enough, but doesn't trying to sound like they come from the 1970s count as a gimmick? maybe, maybe not depending on your knowledge of Television

Digging: Sigur Ros - Kveikur

Yeah, this is definitely very reminiscent of Television. I still like most of the songs here though

i feel like their aim was more just to give stripped down music with as little "distractions" as possible, production and song writing wise

i guess this sounds like television? maybe? not enough to call it a gimmick, for certain.

idk i just think they were so doing the whole 70s retro thing in sound and look at the beginning of the millenium. doesnt take away from the music but i dont consider julian casablancas the most honest, non-posturing frontman in the world

This is near the top of so many decade lists (on other sites), it's ridiculous. I mean it's not THAT amazing

Honestly people could (and do, occasionally) say the same about Kid A, Funeral, Since I Left You and a host of other albums that you personally think are better. The fact is it's a damn great mainstream album and hence is adored by the (mostly mainstream) music media (compared to decidedly non-mainstream albums such as Jane Doe, The Moon Is A Dead World etc. etc.). Personally I adore it, but I can see why people would think it's overrated.

Use of the word mainstream to be taken within the context of the comment.

Yeah the riffs and melodies here are almost Refused level infectious.

Works real well with alt rock.

yeah, definately a winning formula. Albert Hammond and the guitar work is about 3/4 of The Stokes draw if you ask me.

think maybe I should check me out some Refused Dice?

If you dig some hardcore stuff then yeah. Refused Are Fuckin' Dead is my favorite song by them and it's soooo contagious.
