Same here man. I found this album to be a lot more mature than Gospel. Considering most of the songs are about his dead dad that doesn't surprise me though.
I saw them live on The Greatest Generation tour. Sadly they only played Glowing Crosses, Flies on Tape, and One More Creature Dizzy With Love. I was a bit disappointed, similar to the poster above I absolutely adored the Back Window's Down and would have loved to of heard it.

@Greenpaw I read in an interview that the two guitarists write most of the lyrics. Looking at the lyrics, I'm pretty sure only Run Brother Run and the closer have lines specifically about the vocalist's father. There are other lines that mention one's father but the way they read, the framing of the words suggest they're about a living father. My guess is that the album as a whole is cumulatively about being in a tailspin, and not necessarily about the vocalist's father.
Just a thought

I think gospel and their debut hold up better overall, but I really dig all three albums. their EP's are pretty great too

I agree about Hotbed of Life. To me it is the best Fireworks song, but this whole album is just fantastic.

This is way better than anything else they did, but their stuff was all great. Love the first track on Bonfires too. But this album just flows so well and feels so cohesive.

I think I can say that I like Gospel and Oh Common Life better than Confusion, but I'd have one hell of a time choosing between those two. They are both so good but each in different ways.
Favorite song on this one is probably The Sound of Young America or Play God Only Knows.

Both tremendous, the verses of SoYA are so catchy, and I love the return to the flower metaphor in the chorus.
Is this the last great pop punk album? None others since come to mind.

I personally prefer TWY's No Closer to Heaven, but this is very very close behind.

TWY totally miss the mark for me, but that was a half decent album

"Fireworks were one of most revered and underrated bands of their ilk" Glad I'm not the only one who still endlessly respects these guys' music.
