Very good review. I may be in the minority here but I actually love Ruse and rate it more than Hunter Eats Hunter.

Better than Hats off, and Vena Sera. Not sure yet. It's heavy, and I dig it. Still, I think Sci Fi Crimes and Point#1 remain my favorites. Those albums were just so damn solid. Loved every track to pieces on Sci Fi and Point#1. But, this just surfaced, so I'll give it a while before I rank it.
To me, the most noticeable differences in this and previous albums are a lot more guitar effects (small tweaks and accents that MAJORLY add to the flavor), and the lyrical structure. There are, less lyrics, smaller choruses, and more emphasis on musicianship. Less focus on vocals, in other words. I'm torn; as I LOVE Pete's vocals, and yet I feel their musicianship has always taken a back seat to singing previously.
The Island, Ouija Board, and Choking Game are AWESOME tracks.

This sounds like the perfect Chevelle album for me, as I tend to HATE Pete's vocals. Sometimes they're passable, like what I've heard so far of this. But on tracks like The Red and Send The Pain Below, they just sound so damned whiny.

@curmudgeon "so I'll give it a while before I rank it." (...ha, instant 4.5).
"There’s a fine balance between aggression and groove..." (whole paragraph) reads like something I would say.
I agree with this review on more points than the other one but I think you rated it a bit too high (yeah, we know you are a fan boy).
I'm still battling on the rating as I don't know how to react yet, it'll probably end up being a 3/3.5 for me. I do not think is consistent the whole way through, but there are at least 4 or 5 badass tracks in here that are VERY Chevelle and take me to my middle school teenage angst years, something Sc-Fi Crimes and Hats Off never did to me. So there you go, my to cents... and a pos.

I wholeheartedly agree with this review. Well done.
If I had to guess, I would imagine Chevelle will continue to write music after this album. They are pretty popular - at least popular enough to keep playing and living off of their music. Regardless, I am just going to sit back and enjoy this great album.
I am still spinning this album consistently. 20+ plays straight through and nothing's getting old yet.

Oh man fti is super torn on this album. Haven't ever seen you so indecisive haha
For all the dudes at the top of this page asking how good it is, it's probably the closest they've ever come to topping their old
albums WWN and TToT.

"@curmudgeon "so I'll give it a while before I rank it." (...ha, instant 4.5)."
I meant rank it among Chevelles catalog, not a score on a review site I can change at any time...

The hate rating will begin soon. The avg will drop. I still am not sure what to rate it yet. Torn between 3.5 and 4.

I love the fact that every new Chevelle album has a crazy upper 4's rating at first when we all know it's a 2-2.5 at very best

I'm going to have to give this another try sometime. I tried to listen to it when they did the live stream and it just sort of bored the crap out of me and I didn't make it all the way through.

I don't like how the majority raved over Hats Off to the Bull, but now people act like the majority were slightly dismayed by the very same album. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong, but I doubt it.
