I agree. But I think they have the potential to be a great metalcore band if they just stopped trying to be popular. They could try to make a more melodic sound of amia venera landscapes stuff. Instead of being dark ambient, they could be melodic and it would work well I feel. But maybe thats me just wanting them to aim music for me.

I don't think they try to intentionally be a metalcore band. They hate this term.
I always believed them when they said they write the music they wanna write in that moment.
And I guess it's kinda true. Before/With THAN, they were fed up with heavy music and couldn't stand to listen to and playing it.
Then with Daybreaker they re-found their love for heavy music, and Tom was heavily influenced by soundtracks for this album, which also shows I think.
And now they know they're best at doing heavy stuff (Sam stated that they're a band that does energetic things on stage best, so they should sound like it).
Until the next album
You can never know what they come up with next, and that's what I love about them.
For me this album is currently a 4 I think, it's not their best, but fun, passionate, aggressive, has a few stand-out tracks and it will sound huge live!
Loving Gravedigger, Naysayer, C.A.N.C.E.R., Colony Collapse, Youth is wasted on the young and The Distant Blue in particular.

I wish people would stop saying "This isn't groundbreaking, but it's good," about everything. If you enjoy this type of music, your enjoyment doesn't need to be underscored by that contrivance.
Nothing is groundbreaking anyways. And this record is sick.

This is a very good statement indeed, but it should be noted that Metalcore is a genre that, in my opinion, desperately needs some sort of innovation. Architects doesn't bring that, but they still tread the tropes of the genre with a fantastic sense of care of thoughtfulness with this album.
I truly can't wait to see them play live here in Stockholm on the 26th, these songs will sound huge live!

Lol this completely disappeared from first place on the popular albums list. I guess everyone stopped listening at the exact same time.
