I'm gonna find any excuse not to like this, probably, because of their abandonment of Immaculada-noise; but then again, they're so unabashed about that that I feel guilty counting that towards them at the get-go

haha I know, I read the review before posting that, even; it's just that this band, in particular, gives me a tough time with that...
either way, I don't think I like this very much
3/4 of the way through, and I can't help but feel that it combines the dullness of their past records with a more classic rock vibe that I don't really dig and without any of the singles like "Please Don't Go Away" that were a saving grace on OYH

I like the ending here, though, much much more than the beginning
edit: yeah, pearly gates, and 4/5 of the last tracks are jams

those programmed words that define the rating scale are not sufficient. you program your own words next to those ratings.

i thought the oyh singles were some of the duller parts of the album, the long jams like oscillation
and presence lifted it for me

this is better than new moon, but at the risk of sounding closed-minded (honestly though? i like noisy punk and i don't like twangy rock or 70s nostalgia, how is that more closed-minded than any preference anyone has about anything?), their early material is still worlds better.

It's the idea that the new stuff is "bad" because it's not noisy punk that irks me
