Solid from start to finish, this acoustic album represents the best of Saves the Day. A wonderful gut wrenching ride on this emotional rollercoaster of an EP. Starting from the heartbreaking“I’m Sorry I’m Leaving,” the EP travels through a path of incredible emotion, finishing with a Modern English cover of “I’ll Melt with You.”

What makes Saves the Day so appealing could be the fact that Conley can describe indescribable emotions by putting them into words. His lyrics are simple, yet so much more complex in emotion and spiritual depth, a feat very rarely seen in today’s pop punk scene. And on this album, he does not fail to impress.

One of those very few bands with an uncanny ability to write acoustic songs as well as, if not better than, songs from their normal routine of distorted guitars. Song writing and lyrical genius Chris Conley leads this project entirely. Conley’s lyrics are simply superb and the first song, “I’m Sorry I’m Leaving” pays testimony to this as he sings a bittersweet:

Quote:
“You, sweet, are worth these next four months until I bail out and kiss behind your ears, drive off in the van. Oh my god, I think I'm dying in this car seat, where I'll spend through winter.”

Yet, with songs like “Jessie and My Whetstone,” “Hold,” and “Take Our Cars Now” this 5 song EP takes a turn for a brighter and happier sounding album. Saves the Day’s trademark of extremely catchy, and brilliant melody tainted with a bit of heartache, is clearly evident throughout. This 5 song EP is extremely well written, however, frankly it is quite short. As each song is an average 2 ½ minutes.

If you ever manage to find the 7” EP buy it. It comes with “The Way His Collar Falls,” one of Saves the Day’s best acoustic songs not on the CD version.

Definitely, buy it for yourself or your girlfriend. Hell, as it is a pretty old album, just download it. But never, never, never be without! This is one acoustic album you don’t want to miss.

4.5/5 Superb

I've only heard I'm Sorry You're Leaving... It's pretty good, although the vocal is really whiny... Your review is a little bit too short i think...

I've heard I'm Sorry I'm Leaving and Hold and there both great. Saves the Day writes great acoustic songs, and I'm not a big fan of acoustics personally.

Jessie and My Whetstone is one of their best songs and honestly one of the most beautiful, earnestly romantic songs I've ever heard. Everything on this is incredible.
