"so basically it has no arguments other than, 'I think this band is annoying.'"
Pretty much.
Rody's an incredible singer. He doesn't sound so great live, though.

a bit half-assed in that it reeks of Scurrilous
same uninspired, and at times obnoxious delivery
mindlessly masturbating sweeps that are predictable
the content is all the same everything bleeds together
there is but one volume level
more moments like [the aforementioned good ones] don’t present themselves
messy heap of proggy tomfoolery
like seriously guys? I know it's easy to jump onto another guy's opinion of the review, but c'mon. this isn't the most well-written review and it shows that eli doesn't care much about this record one way or the other -- but who gives a shit? he gives much more reason for it being bad than simply being annoyed by it... all you need is the review in front of your eyes and the slightest bit of reading comprehension to realize that

Again, Eli is doing a totally one-sided review... Come on, you're better than that...
Album is better than Scurrilous but far from the first 2

I'm mainly pissed because it's a 2.4 because of stupid "music reviewer" nitpicks that really don't mean anything in the grand scope. Like... the "volume" of the record? Do we add a shitty ballad to gain cred? "Mindlessly masturbating sweeps," should they dumb it down a little to fix it for you? Maybe reverse the progression of the melody for the sake of being "different" rather than fitting?
This is my favorite release by them and I think it's a fitting conclusion to the IndieGogo saga that a band releases an incredible and tight record that pushes their own boundaries in response to an enthusiastic fanbase's support.

man weird to see "music reviewer" nitpicks (criticisms?) in a music review, huh?
do you understand what "mindlessly masturbating sweeps" was supposed to mean? he meant that it was dumbed down...
"response to an enthusiastic fanbase's support"... lol the main crux of your complaint is really coming into view now
the aforementioned paragraphs are awesome because they really show the depths of the thinking that goes into comments like "so basically it has no arguments other than, "I think this band is annoying." [2]"

Sometimes I want to eat a nice cheeseburger without nails included because it's "innovative." Yeah, it's "interesting" but I'm probably going to take it out because I ordered a cheeseburger, not "Cheeseburger garnished with nails for the sake of indie cred and because no one else has done it before"
|
| |
Yeah and sometimes I just ignore arguments and make up fake ones in their place because they're easier to argue against...

I had hoped this discussion wouldn't be reduced down to accusing me of buyer's remorse.

I was using it to rationalize as to why your arguments had been so ridiculous before so it was really convenient

ok cool now given all of the above you can probably address something right?
or maybe now how ""so basically it has no arguments other than, 'I think this band is annoying.'" is legit in any way?

The staff review is "stickied" to the album on this website, regardless of what the users think of it, and whatever score is given by the staff reviewer will influence the later user scores because having the title "Staff" carries an expectation of wisdom and in regards to website guests and users in general. And everyone wants to feel like they know as much as the wise old Staff reviewer by giving it a similar score.
I wouldn't want a indifferent review to discourage a potential listener or future fan from buying it or giving it a spin.

so if something is capable of being perceived as good the staff shouldn't be allowed to review it negatively, because you wouldn't want anyone to be turned off from checking out any album?
like ignoring every argument I made is one thing but yours are just getting more ridiculous lol
|

and please tell me you're not chalking up negative opinions of this album simply to users trying to copy the staff...

It's important because it's a pretty accurate estimation of the reviewer's prejudice towards Protest going into this review.
I hate country music. But I'm not writing 2.0 reviews for country music to tell other people they need to hate it or people who listen to it need to feel bad for listening to mediocre music.

hating country music and disliking PTH in general but still being knowledgeable enough about its surrounding genres and influences are two very different things
once again, in your estimation apparently, the only reviewers who should be eligible to review an album negatively would be reviewers who liked a past album, which is absurd
