Review Summary: Prince and NWA walk into a bar, on acid.

Tobacco and Prince's evil twin apparently decided to impersonate NWA on an 8-bit acid trip. For every fuzzy, funk-tastic retro beat on "Exorcise Tape", there is a sensual falsetto voice to guide our ears. Tobacco's production is unmistakably evident while the newcomer, Zackey Force Funk, brings much needed sex appeal to their new group Demon Queen.

On the surface, this appears to be another sprawling, lo-fi psychedelic fuzz-fest that we are accustomed to hearing from Tobacco (Black Moth Super Rainbow). Something is different this time around though. Zackey Force Funk brings an element that has been always missing from Tobacco's canon: a defining voice. This marriage of heavy, psychedelic synths with a funky lead singer is perhaps best realized on the track “Puni Nani”.

Of course “Exorcise Tape” isn't without its faults, struggling to find an identity at certain points. That said, this album still has plenty of tantalizing variety to offer. It's spacey and tripped out yet funky and driven. Zackey Force Funk spits out ghetto anthems like it aint no thing while Tobacco does his thing. Demon Queen's debut “Exorcise Tape” was probably inspired by Eazy-E's nasally voice blasting in an El Camino, or maybe 2 guys on a shit ton of LSD. Who knows.
