"agreed, but i think that's the '80s tone, and that james blake influence. the atmosphere went a long way, mainly because it framed the album to be more lyrical in a way. like how the production made you feel is what the song was about. here, he's is obviously studying the rap playbook more thoroughly (jay-z is def a main influence) and building an empire on top of it.
