The riff sounds like it's being played on a seven string, and to my ear, it was starting to get into "djent" territory. I wish I didn't feel like I have to explain this, but I'm not saying that anything played with a seven string is "djent;" that particular riff just sounds that way to me. Either way I think it's a generic metalcore riff that displays the worst this album has to offer.
This album could have been great if they had stuck with melodic hardcore, which I think they do quite well. Instead they decided to throw in some totally unnecessary, mediocre metalcore moments that totally kill the momentum the album carries through its first five songs.

"Sounds like." May not be. I haven't been listening to them for very long so I don't know what kind of guitars they're using but the guitar is clearly tuned down to drop B or C and it seemed to have that 7-string sound. Didn't realize hardcore/metalcore bands can never use 7-strings, tho. Sorry, my bad.

it's drop c. the only bands that use 7 strings and have the bottom 6 tuned to c are actual modern djent bands like reflections or northlane (northlane doesn't tune to c but you get it) and it's pretty obvious to know the difference between a 6 and 7 string guitar if you know anything about the genre. which you apparently don't

definitely didn't say that but nice recovery

I didn't ever call them djent. I said the riff (not even the song) was "djent-ish," in its tone.
"lmao you think Counterparts uses 7 strings? you must be new to this whole hardcore/metalcore thing"
That comment seemed to imply that a hardcore/metalcore band wouldn't use 7-string guitars and I thought that was a bit over the top so I commented on it. Is that so terrible?
Seems to be a fairly gross over-generalization to say that the "only bands that use 7 strings and have the bottom 6 tuned to c are actual modern djent bands." I could see 7 strings being used for post-metal, jazz, etc...
