Pure radio rock.

Gimme a break. The lead single & a couple of other tracks may head that way, but radio rock doesn't get anywhere near as dark as this album gets at stages. And radio rock is not exactly filled with baritones.

"What is this Thing called Love"
Worst editors song by far. This is an insult.

I recall hating it the 1st time I heard that song. It took an eternity to get used to Tom's (gasp) falsetto. It's gown on me a bit since then. Strangely, many feel it's the best song here.

According to rym this is even worse than their previous album
which I think is a slight exaggeration

As far as I remember, Editors were the first band I ever really listened to or took notice of. The Back Room and its B-sides are still some of my favourite songs. AEHAS was decent, and ITLAOTE I think is underrated - it does have some really great moments. The ITLAOTE B-sides like This House Is Full Of Noise are fantastic. This album strikes me as bland, amped up stadium rock and it just doesn't match up to earlier work.

According to rym, a band's best album is usually not their best album... & vice-versa.
This is indeed more like stadium rock than radio rock; I'll give you that ash. I'll also agree that it doesn't match up to their earlier work. That's probably where our agreement ends, I guess. You seem to be a fan of B-Sides. They are usually B-Sides for a reason.

Perhaps they wouldn't work in the album contexts sure but as far as album 3, I really think it would have been more successful if some of the B-sides were included.
The live versions of some of the new tracks were also really good from what I heard, a lot of the energy has been sapped in the studio recordings. Especially true with The Sting. I can't say how much of the change is down to Urbanowicz's departure but damn do I miss his input.

Blood runs through our veins, that's where our similarities end

Tbh, B-Sides, live versions, out-takes, bloopers & hearing Tom cough would probably have been better than 3/4 of ITL&OTE!

this is actually not bad

kinda boring tho

The old 2 edged sword. I think it was on the other review of this album where someone called their 1st 2 albums "fun". I would think that's a strange word to describe any Editors LP. "Boring" is probably too far the other way. Then again, one could make an argument that all the best indie-rock is borderline boring! (Run Davey run).

"Every day I pray
I'm the first to go
Without you I would be lost"
That doesn't sound like radio-rock to me at all.
