Review Summary: COME ON AND SLAM, AND WELCOME TO THE JAM

You like Suffocation yes? You like brutal riffage yes? You like mindcrushing breakdowns yes? Well then this is for you!
Pyrexia is a brutal death metal band formed in 1990 hailing from Long Island, New York. The empire state has seen its fair share of legendary death metal acts such as Immolation, Suffocation, Morpheus Descends, and so on. I do not hesitate to put Pyrexia’s 1993 release Sermon of Mockery up there with those greats. They are ‘suffoclones’ there is no denying it that, but who’s complaining? It is clear they do not quite reach the level of talent or charisma of the aforementioned godfathers of crushing old school death metal. Nor does this release have the greatest production and guitar tone. The vocals and drums are a little high in the mix as well. Yet Pyrexia manages to overcome this simply by repeatedly bashing in your face with a sledgehammer. The slamming and jamming and constant brutality never ends until you are convinced that a malevolent god or demigod is going to send their legion of demons to impale you with a spear through your asshole not unlike the poor souls on the album cover. The breakdowns here are massive enough to make you believe that a vortex from hell lined with razor sharp blades is going to swallow you up and have you freefall for an eternity of flesh ripping torment. Oh what was that you said you like solos? *** that *** you aren’t getting off easy. You only get some more blasphemy and some more grooving slamz of trvth. Clocking in at a robust 34 minutes this album does not overstay it’s welcome. Trust me it has no time for queef. Now get this already or die.

well sputnik doesn't even like Suffocation that much so it's no surprise. They will endlessly slob on
Death's knob but Breeding the Spawn has a 10 page thread.

Review sucks.

As for this album, it's not bad. It's brutal, but not on the same level as Suffocation. These guys are not technical either.

The production is decent. Drums are too loud but at least they sound good.

Riffs are decent. Inhumanity, title track, and God are good tracks.

Guy Marchais was one of the guitarists for this album. That is where the Suffocation influence comes from. He was the original Suffocation guitarist before Cerrito. He is now back with Suffocation since the Souls to Deny album.

Review's not great, but then again it's a Pyrexia album, how much do you really need to say? Props for the slam love, bunch of bitches around here.

This album is fucking sick! I would complain about the drums being too loud but I absolutely love his playing.

I'm glad it had a review too. I found that when I listen to my expensive headphones versus on my laptop, you can hear the guitar a little better. m/

I was really disappointed to find out that the vocalist and drummer didn't do any other work in their careers
